I'd like to know what is considered as a high end computer.

I thought mine was one: Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, 512 Mo, Ti4200.
Sure the graphical card is not good but it seems that GP4 mainly depend on the CPU.

I get 30 fps (around 100% of PO, 120 at max) with a carset with only lod_0 (200 000 faces), mirrors with all objects...

May a better graphical card decrease PO, or does it only improve graphical quality (anti-aliasing, filtering (anisotropic)) ???

well that graphics card is a budget card from over two years ago, so it's hardly high end... cpu's not so shabby, 512 meg ram is a little poor for now too :P

I have P4 3.0 GHz, 1024mb of RAM, Radeon 9600XT 256Mb and I get around 48 FPS with original game with mirrors turned on and 4x AF (if I turn AA on the game gets realy slow)

i dont think it is cpu hungry,just because we can see view the occupancy doesnt make it so,i bought a new graphics card and occupancy the reduced considerably,i think it only hits the cpu hard if the graphics processor is poor,thats my opinion

Not only processor matters to GP4, even Graphics card also matters a lot to play this game in high quality with AA and AF in high resolution. i don't agree with one who say's that only high processor alone enough to play this game.

my new system config from P4 3.0 HT with 2GB blitz ram to

AMD Athlon 64bit 3500 + ( 939 socket) venice core with revision E6
Asus A8N SLI-premium
2 GB Ram ( Transcend 400MHz) 2X 1 GB RAM
XFX Geforce 6800GS XXX Edition 256MB DDR3
160 Gb seagate sata 2 HD
160 Gb seagate sata 2 HD (both are working in raid technology)
creative sound blaster 24 bit 7.1 sound card
creative 7.1 speakers (T7900)
Sony DRU 800A DvD writer
LG Dvd Drive
TechCom Tv tuner card ( internal)
17inch Philips pure Flat monitor (107 c6)

last but not least at all
Antec smartpower2.0 450 Watts SMPS

there is a huge difference between P4 3.0HT and AMD 3500+ 64 bit. except in mutli-tasking P4 3.0HT can't even come near to this AMD beast. especially in games i see an average of 15-20 frames difference between these processors with same video card. i am enjoying with my new system.

I think ill be getting the T7900 speakers when i build my new pc, are they good? I looked at the S750THX but the price is amazingly stupid.

@madotter
yeah, the T7900 speakers are awesome and they have 92 watts of RMS and produce neat bass and treble depends upon ur taste in settings.these speakers support DIGITAL surround ES , dolby digital etc but u should have a good sound card like audigy2 ZS minimum, if not others below audigy can't upmix properly from 5.1 to 7.1 speakers movie.

right now with my sound card that is 24bit!live (supports 5.1 to 7.1)is really a good card for 5.1 but not 7.1.

and u said about THX certified speakers ,yeah the cost sounds very bad but it sounds ultimate and amazing , no other speakers can match with these THX speakers except gigworks creative. S750THX i think they have 500 or 720 RMS watts , u can imagine with that. mine is just 92 RMS watts but produces good ,loud sound and clear bass.

I dunno why people insist on gettin hung up on DD speakers for their pc, it's just a huge mass of wires and they take ages to calibrate properly to get the best possible sound out of em. Don't get me wrong, DD speakers give superb sound, but in all honesty, you'd do just as well with a good 2.1 system. I've got a Cambridge Soundworks 2.1 set, and the sounds is wonderful for music and gaming :)

That's just my opinion though, I don't expect you to agree with me ;)

Your computers are all so pissy compared to mine :P

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
1.53 Ghz
256MB of RAM
Ati Radeon 9550 256MB
17" Viewsonic E70 CRT
Starkey PS/2 Keyboard

Funnily enough this computer does the trick well enough for some mods, doesn't like Hi-Res tracks though. It can take the 86 mod well and the 99 mod updated too

@zeppelin101

I agree with u until i bought 5.1 speakers from 2.1 creative. i was thinking just like u(no offence i mean opinion). i used to talk just like u with my closet friend about these DD speakers not only DD speakers but more than 2.1 channel. one day he took me to his cousin's house who is having ALTEC LANSING 5.1 speakers . when we went there i was surprised to see him playing GP4 (normally in INDIA GP4 isn't popular at all) and i couldn't believe the sound b'coz all the cars are surrounding his bedroom with massive ferrari 2003 engine sound's.
and one more thing , it won't take ages to calibrate good sound , it's just matter of five minutes after u purchase and yes, there is a problem with wires occupied in ur room.but ur enjoying mini home theatre system.

once u hear either games or especially DVD's with the surround speakers,u can't listen with 2.1 channel anymore how much good they are. then i bought 5.1 speakers creative where altec lansing are very costly in india and now 7.1.

@madotter
that's really good choice. these X-fi cards allows to increase 2 or more frame rates in games.

@ lobo288
thanks man, i saw the review before

Actually, I owned a superb 7.1 set of speakers (buggered if I remember whose they were though) a while back, and while the sound is good, it's just the absolute mess that comes with them that puts me off...

My home cinema system however is 6.1 with two huge floor standing speakers for music, and that is how 2.1 is supposed to sound ;-)
