The methods commonly mentioned are to completely disable Hyperthreading via the BIOS settings, or to use GPxPatch.

Two problems:
*BIOS isn't nice, plus there may be some programs that could do with a bit of hyperthreading... I've no idea what they could be though...

*Some people have reported that the GPxPatch method doesn't work.

Another Solution:
(The link is at the top, underlined)

That page tells you to type commands in. A batch file is easier, especially if you have to repeat the process:
In a simple text editor like Notepad, type the following lines:

imagecfg -u GP4.exe
imagecfg -a 0x1 GP4.exe
pause

(The 'pause' is optional. It will wait for you to press a key before the command prompt closes)

Save this file in your gp4 folder as "XYZ.bat" (Including the double quotes to ensure the correct extension is given. Replace XYZ with anything you want).

Go to your GP4 folder and run the file.

Note: If for any reason GP4.exe is deleted and later re-created (e.g. if the game is uninstalled and reinstalled) you will have to run the .bat file again.

Can somebody tell me if the AMD Athlon 64 3200+ has hyperthreading enabled? I'm not sure but I do have problems similar to P4 (e.g. reboot when switching to track camaras).

AMD doesn't have HT. And I have Intel P4 HT and it works fine by set the CPU 0.

If you can Alt-Tab to Windows, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the task manager,
goto the processes

select gp4, right click, goto set affinety, then select one CPU instead of 2

But the point of my method, is that it only needs to be done once per install.

Each time you have to do it through Task Manager, you could forget and start a race only for the game to crash...

i doubt that this program adds something extra compared to gpxpatch or csm.
gpxpatch gives you the option to only use 1 processor. csm does this by default because i don't see any advantages running gp4 on dual core.
anyway..
all programs available that i know of use SetThreadAffinityMask or SetProcessAffinityMask to do the job, including this one.
so unless you run gp4 without gpxpatch or csm, this will be useless imho.
if you do run gp4 out of the box, it can be useful :)

ha, you don't even need any programs when you're running gp4 out of the box and have HT. ;) right-click on the gp4.exe shortcut, set compatibility to windows98 and that disables it. been running my gp4 for some time like this on HT/WinXP without problems... now i obviously use csm+gpxpatch (cpu0). ;-)
