Stupid Graphics Question!

Ok, this may (or may not) be a stupid question. Please don't flame me for asking it.

How come I can run windows XP at 1280 x 1024 quite happily, but when I try and do the same in GP4, it doesn't like it?

I have an ATI Radeon 9800.

Firstly, what processor have ya got?

Secondly, what clock speed does the card run at?

first of all MONITOR should support higher resolution with good refresh rate. check whether it supports or not and also refresh rate too.

second thing ur graphics card will support 1280X1024 in GP4.

I imagine what he's trying to say is that he doesn't have any problems running Windows (or any other application?) in 1280x1024, but GP4 probably kills the processor, so the monitor doesn't matter, and it would seem the graphics card does support 1280x1024, because it's an ATi, and they tend to go up to 2048x1536 or something like that

maybe ur right but monitor too should support games with good refresh rate as well higher resolution.

i had this problem before with my old monitor.after getting philips 17'inch flatron problem solved for me.

that's why these days monitor advertisements are specifying particular games support in their sites as well as newspaper adds.

maybe this is not the problem for intweb but i am explaining regarding zeppelin101 statement.

example

normally some 14" monitor less refresh rate without videocard won't support 1024 resolution in winXP but by pressing F8 when windows booting a menu will exist, there if we press "enable vga mode" and restart system to normal boot. after loading windows we can set to 1024X768 without any problem but when we play any games and set game resolution to 1024X768 it won't accept.

Yea, VGA is what GP2 ran at back in the day before systems started getting upgrades, then we could all make use of the 640x480 svga mode. Now-a-days we have EVGA and somethin else (can't remember what it's called) but if you're gaming, you really need a 20" or bigger monitor so that you get 1600x1200 (20" as standard has something like 80hz refresh rate but that's off the top of my head). Mine is a 19", so it's just below what I need really, but it does the job fine, plus it runs at 75hz which is great for gaming. All I need now is the system to run it properly for games

Some 19" monitors handle 1600*1200@85Hz (like mine), even 1920*1440@72hz (a bit slow for games anyway but it works)

ur 19" monitors handle 1600*1200@85Hz. that's cool. i think u can play almost all games in awesome clarity

The only 19" 1600x1200 ones I've found are CRT, but if you have a tft with 1600x1200 at 19", please throw some names at us

I never told it was a TFT monitor and I would not recommend any TFT yet for gaming if you want any advice even if I hear here and there that TFT are becoming better...

My monitor is a now quite old Iiyama Vision Master pro 450 and yes it was one of the highest quality model of the brand at the time I bought it (could be a reason for its performances )
