I have a fairly good PC :

Pentium 4 2.0ghz, 512mb DDR Ram, GeForce4 440SE with AGP8X, Creative Audigy 2.

You may say "use the search button" but ill try anyway.

Im having a lot of trouble setting my graphics, my PO is fine in free practice mode, but it reaches 200 - 300 in a race. I have downloaded the latest drivers for my video card. Ive closed all the programs in my task bar, but yet i still cant get the performance any better. I've tried to turn off the sound acceleration settings in windows, but that just makes GP4 sound like $#iT - me used to 6.1 EAX. I dont know what to do, ive tried playing around with the graphics confic file but i have no luck, i dont know what to change.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

Ciao

why dont you tweak the graphics. do this:

go into the game

go into graphics option,

set all the graphics to max. detail, and resolution etc. evrything to the max.

save and exit game.

double click and open the f1graphics.txt file in your gp4 folder.
change the first row to 1. (or the opposite of what it is at the moment)

then save and exit.

also make sure sound card performance is turned down.

then enter game, and marvell at the new found performance!!!

yes thats it.

the first line of writing, i forgotten what it says.

but chnge the 0 or 1 to a 1 or 0. (oppsosite number)

then save and exit, then go into game and enjoy,

if it is too much and still to slow, then go back out of game, open f1graphics.cfg and change back t the standard number (1 or 0)

then open game, reduce some of the settings, and then save and exit and go back into the graphics file and change the number again.

keep doing this until you have reached a good level of performance.

ps: i would leave fps at about 30.

OK, I've made you up a f1graphics.cfg which should work OK, basically (Make sure you backup the original f1graphics.cfg) and replace with this f1graphics.cfg I've sent you through the e-mail.

Also make sure 3D sound is disabled and turn down other cars volume as people have reported that this helps alot.

I've disabled mirrors as they really slow down GP4 alot, if you want them enabling just go to the line

Enable Mirrors

In the f1graphics.cfg file.

Ian

P.S. Cheers! I'm proud of Damon!

MY PO is in the 120 - 170 mark, and thats just on free practice, and vipers cars for example are stuffed up - textures all over the place

Three of the coolest men in F1 in that picture.....Damon, Mika and Harry Heinz

Anyway, although the F1graphics.cfg file controls almost all of the graphics, the pitcrew detail is still controlled within the game menus

f1graphics.cfg controls all settings (default 0)
[RELEASE] Enable hardware T&L if available
Low track geometry (1 on, 0 off)
Low res geometry track (1 low res, 0 normal)

Did it work?

lol marcl!!!

OK,

f1graphics.cfg controls all settings (deafult 0)

More or less speaks for itself, all graphic setting are controlled through the f1graphics.cfg file, This also means that the Graphic setup page in GP4 has been made useless, as changes can only be made through the f1graphics.cfg file.

[RELEASE] Enable hardware T&L if available

I'm not sure what T&L stands for, but I do know by enabling this usually speeds up the game performance if the Graphic Card is capable of it.

Low Track Geometry

Decreases the Track Geometry level to improve game performance

Low Res Geometry Track

I think this assigns GP4 to use the low res graphics stored in the Track files but don't hold me to that! anyhow it improves performance!

Hope this helps!

Ian
