gp4 vs f1 2002

Just bought E.A SPORTS f1 2002 got it very cheap so wasn't to bothered if it was crap & it is :)

looks ok but that's about it!!

doesn't have the same feel as gp4 (simulator)
f1 2002 to much of an arcade feeling

played all Geoff crammonds gp series & i compare all other gp games to gp3,gp4 & always sadly let down that's why when a new gp game comes out i don't go rushing out to buy it unless its another gp4,gp5(hope & pray)

does anyone prefer f1 2002 to gp4?
i am probably not giving it a chance (f1 2002) but i will never get to like it;-(

gp4
I know in it's original form it has the bugs BUT even still it beats any other gp game!!!

when i heard about gp4 coming out i knew i wouldn't be let down!! even though the bugs & a mega spec pc to run it but that will just give the game more life in years to come!!!

As it say's on the tin

"NOTHING gets closer"

exactly, i agree with you.
The reality In gp4 is something special. EA releases their F1 game Time after time but had never succeded in Beating gp3 or gp4.

If track editor comes out for gp4 than ........................ sony ,Ea or whatever , Beating gp4 will be a tough job.

i hope gp5 does release.

The only thing is:
-they have sooooooooo many tracks available for download
-and they have the most beautiful mods
we must get those people and convince them gp4 is much more beautiful, so they can make all these things overhere ;)

*slap me against the head if making mods is much more easy in f12002;)*

I have to say, I think that the ppl making mods for GP3 and 4 are doing a very very good job, I dont really care how "beautiful" the mods are for F1 2002 as the underlying game is a pile of sh*t! ;)

Keep up the AWESOME work ppl, we less talented mortals really appreciate it and would be lost without u! Well, stuck with an un-modded GP Series at least;)

We have new cars.... Thats something. And if we are lucky we will also have Tracks (sooner or later). But I think f1 2002 is a very very good game.
I just like Gp4 more ;)

I have F1 2002 for GameCube, and I have to say it's a good game, but to beat a series like GP3 or GP4, is very hard. If GP4 didn't have the millions of bugs, and was better programmed, it would be a ridiculously easy choice to make. But even with all that, has an overall content that we all love, and that can't be beaten. Well, at least EA tries (the engine sounds are sweeeet), but feels a little fake F1 experience.
This is what I think, though......... :)

Hei come on guys. It's not a pile of s--t. F12002 is a very good game. It's certainly not arcade, in fact it is much more difficult driving F12002 without aids than gp4. That doesn't mean it is more realistic. However, it is easier to edit and in some repects the graphics are better than gp4 but overall GP4 wins graphically. The tracks in f12002 are not all accurate. Worst is Hungary. I don't know which physics model is more realistic, but GP4 gives a rather consistent picture of itself. F12002 also has some nice stuff in set ups like camber and toe and tyre pressures. These are missing from GP4. Where F12002 beats GP4 hands down is in the force feedback. It is REALLY good. The Graphics (car shaking in some corners and the feeling in the sw is unbelievable. Trust me.

I don't drive F12002 much. GP4 has won me over. But be fair, it is avery good GAME.

yes i have to agree, the force feedback is streets ahead in f12002.

but graphically, realistsically, physics, track graphics layout, etc. GP4 is the king!

only thing i like about F12002 are the engine sound and TC sound, the force feedback, and the different teams steering wheels.

if gp4 had all that it would be brilliant!

If you check the original graphics for both F1 2002 and GP4, F1 is better. But with all the add-ons we get from the net, it only helps GP4, with much more detailed cars for example ;)

I like both games alot, they are completely different and it depends on how I feel at the time as to what game I play. The Mods are exellent for F12002 though, I currently have:

GTR2002
Turbo Mod
1995 Mod
Senna tribute Mod
Ferrari 360 challenge mod
alfa 147 mod
Porcshe 993 Supercup Mod
BMW M3 Mod and 1994 mod coming soon.

and drive tracks like Brands Hatch, Donnington, Valencia, le Mans and Mugello to name a few!!

I must say though since Korn_Freak has started hus GP4 Hotlap website i can't stop playing GP4 at the moment (the missus is not happy!!) I LOVE IT.

IMHO both games are great

Steve ;)

I like F1 2002 too. I like the Gpx series better on the whole, but F1 2002 beats GP4 in several areas such as the downloadable tracks and mods, but also little things like the sense of speed, the bumps, gravel and overal physics (once edited; the original physics are crap!). I like it.

But then I play GP4 and the tracks, AI, collisions and damage, and overal look of the game is far better. The rain is much better too. But I get frustrated with the slightly off physics (even after editing car set-ups, physics files and controller set-up) and it looks quite slow. Little things like the bumps are mssing too, and the feeling of being strapped in the car IMO. Just having 17 tracks is getting a bit boring too now, after a year of playing.

Overal, I think GP4 is better though, and I get a better sense of realism from it. But there's just little things that keep pulling me back to F1 2002 too. I'll be getting F1 Challenge too. It sounds as if it's a good improvement. I honestly think that this game will last for ages with the modability of it, and it's improved features. It'll far outlast GP4, even with a track and sound editor.

Look at F1 2002 pitcrew and GP4 pitcrew.
Even try to look over at the upcoming F1 C pitcrew. They have a jumbled up kinda texture. It lke does not go on properly and there are not good animations.

Whereas GP4 has terrific pitcrew animations, including rear wing and front wing replacement. The track marshalls.Overall sensation, AI .I can still remember that first I downloaded a rip version of GP4 using kazaa.I raced at MONTREAL and I could not believe how engrossed I was defending my position while David Coulthard tried to outbrake me at the final corner.Immediately I went to the store and bought the original GP4 worth 900 Rs(or 30 Canadian $).
I love that game.I only regret that the game is now not working in my XP because I have a inbuilt S3 Savage that make s the game crash from its loading screen.I am still downloading the new patches and waiting readily till I hopefully buy the new Geforce FX 5900 card.

Finally,

Geoff Crammond's GRAND PRIX 4 rules. It is the KING of Formula 1

For me, by far and away the area GP4 smashes F1 2002 is the tracks. GP4 uses GPS data and the recreation of the tracks is mightily impressive. I thought GP3 did this well but when GP4 came out it just showed how well a recreation of real tracks we have now. F1 seems to use their own data based on camera footage and its not great although they do have modified tracks like Nurburgring, Hockenheim etc that I'd love to use in GP4.

The whole feel of GP4 is more real, F1 2002 seems slightly cheap, less realistic, more shiny with glaringly bold colours. When playing the F1 games is feels like a game, GP4 immerses you and doesn't feel so much like a virtual experience - even though it is.

I didn't said I don't like the gp4 mods, it's just that we only have 3, maybe 4 mods(they are great!) at the moment, and f1 2002 has over 10 already! What I meant is that we must convince all those developers to get overhere. So we have the same amount of choice out of all kinda stuf, for exemple look at this website: [f1hq.racesimcentral.com]
They have 73 tracks already! But that's the only thing I like about F1 2002, GP4 has much more detailed tracks, and the gameplay is way better...
