I also got the 'you must install 8.1DX' error - I have version 9.0b installed! I got over that by starting the program from the Start panel rather than the desk-top icon installed by the program - it then didn't ask for 8.1, but simply crashed after displaying a black screen.
After long investigation I found the offending service - the Print Spooler! Go into Run on the Start menu and enter services.msc. Find the Print Spooler service and switch it off. After running GP4 you can simply repeat the process and switch the Print Spooler back on.
