Just wondering if there is an option or 'something' to slow the shimmering effect of heat haze?

Take a look in the f1grafix.cfg, theres a few things you can change there, thats all i can really say about that.

Nort everybody use it (can use it) and hardly anybody knows how it works. I love it and always keep it on. Why do you want to slow it?

Hi Larry,

I have P4 3.0ghz/800mhz fsb with the Radeon 9800 pro and 1gig 400mhz PC3200 ram. I have (as u can imagine) everything on(except video walls)and set to max @1200x1024 and have set 50fps. I can set 60fps and cpu will go to %130 for a second or two and then back to below %100 but because it is sooo smooth u tend to lose the effect of speed hence 50fps. Outside of the car in replay it is usually around %20-50 no matter what. thus the shimmering effect of heat haze is too fast and looks really fake. Never thought I'd be asking for a slow down solution in gp4!!

Rendering:
The heat haze is just a rectangle mesh rendered into the scene a la imposter (a render is taken of everything 'through' the mesh - this is why its such a frame rate hit).

Animation:
The mesh is actually a grid of nxn cells.
Every frame the verts making up the grid are moved through a noise function. Since the noise function isn't a function of time, then yes, its possible at high frame rates it looks 'too fast'.
So there's no way, iirc, to slow it down :(

Thanks for the info Jason. I guess its a small price to pay to have the sim play as it was meant to be.....

Well if high fps is the problem, reduce your fps to say 37-40 (I use 37 and it's really fast and smooth). Would that help?

Yes, this is why it suddenyl jumps to normal as the car breahes the mesh

Unless u can put in a series of meshs, but that wud invovle having a 4ghz PC to get 20fps
