Does my computer suck???

I mean zilch man I dont even have enough money to keep petrol in my
car i get around by doing errands for family and friends and getting petrol
money off them. I need a job :\ feel sad for me... na dont

thats a pretty sweet PC for $2400AUD (roughly converted i think to
convert pounds into aussie dollars just multiply by 3)

i worked it out that to uprgrade my pc to p4 2.5 ghz roiughly $900 AUD
so that would be 300 pounds then by my dodgy conversion rate

slowing ddown couple of times a lap might be firewall.

btw i had a 23mb cars.wad going about 60po and with a 70mb wad it was 170po!
and another time mirrors of about 20po and mirrors on about 120po.

i thought the cars.wad file size didnt change the po? thats what everyone
been saying at these forums

Tony is right the game should run on a lower system than korn freaks, so the publishers say, but this seems ludicrous? and yes Tony is right comp systems are getting cheaper so try not to worry about the Cars.wad and get a WAD of money somewhere! Time comps £799 sounds good to me.

You can get a 6 or 9mths no interest credit with time . might even be 12mths, not sure.

i know it adds more po if u copy the carshape files (lod files) onto each other ie the make the 0 lod file 1 2 3 4 so they all the same. that adds alot
of po and increases your cars.wad size :\

I think people read the min spec on the GP4 box and expect GP4 to run like a dream on their computers... when I had a 1.7Ghz CPU with a GF4MX440 I wasnt satisfied.... I expected it to run well. Lets face it... to get the most out of GP4, you need a beast... like mine!

My machine runs GP4 like a dream, a proper awesome and ultimate dream! My old machine was similar spec to Lazhil's ie. 1Ghz cpu, Geforce2 and 256 MB and it ran pretty well, not great but it was ok. Its just a case of enjoying what u have.

My new machine runs it really well, the specs are:

3.06Ghz Pentium 4
Radeon 9800 Pro
1Gig 3700 DDR Memory
150GB HDD

Although it runs lovely and smooth and all options are on its still basically the same game. Its still a dream to drive (the best thing about the GPx series) and I still think this game kicks every other F1 "game" into touch!

PS: Keep up the wicked work on all the mods and updates everyone, they truly keep the game alive!!

lets ignore pirate eh? the way i thought gp4 would run on min specs
was at least have erything good running. ie sound. if i was a decent
frame rate i have to have no sound. and my pc is 100 mhz above the
min specs. I also expect to have to graphical optioins on just the bare
minimum of things on and i would at least get 12 fps and have the po at
100 at near all times. i dont even get that with sound on. only off.

Gentlemen.....i guess old Geoff's got loads of Nvidia and Radeon shares cos everyone upgraded their pc to play GP4 it seems....

I heard that XP needs at least 256Mb ram so if that's what you got maybe it's a bit short or ram. Update all your drivers. Start with reso 800*600*16 with everything turned low and switch on what you like to have most (e.g. mirrors are nice but take a huge p.o.) 32 bit is out of the question. to let the game run smoothly it needs at least 20 fps i reckon. Better play smooth on a low reso than have stuttering gameplay on a higher reso.

I have a P4, 1,4 Ghz. 640 MB ram and XP with a GF2 Mx 200/100 and i get no more than 800*600*16 with 21 fps, videowalls and heat haze turned off and no dynamic environment mapping (po killer!). But it runs pretty good when racing. Try different graphics.cfg files some decrease po dramatically. But in the end it's what you are satisfied with is that determines whether your pc suck or not. Probably not if you are playing Solitaire. But probably if you want to run GP4 at full detail. Good luck!
