i've had 3 or 4 blue screens of death whilst playing gp4 lately.
and the processor occupancy is generally between 150 and 200.

with gp3 it is usually between 50-90 and my gp4 is so slow as to be near unplayable.

i'd love some help.

thanks...:)

Blue screens sounds like a driver problem. You will need to give us information on your system, so we can help you. I suspect your not running a top of the line pc. GP4 demands ALOT of your CPU, especially if you want to have all the eye candy. And everybody wants the eye candy. Why don't you had your specs to your signature like I did? ;)

amd 1400.
512 ram
nVidia geForce2 MX400
hitachi 19" cm715
win 2k
keyboard controls

i tried turning down the candy a little. (mirrors off, replay buffer reduced etc) but that didnt help.

C drive: (12Gb) has 6.5Gb free
D drive: (10Gb)(gp4 installed here) has 2.2Gb free

tried it without anything else running but no good.

thanks for the help

Which video drivers are you using. I tried 40.72 which were ótherwise fine except they have a bug which doesn't let me use 1600x1200 resolution. The best bug free driver is version 30.82. Remember to uninstall the existing drivers and use detonator destroyer before going through the routine for installing new drivers. Your blue screen sounds like a driver problem.

I didn't buy gp4 until I had upgraded from thunderbird 1200 to my present set-up. Also your video card is a bit slow (even mine is) but the processor is most important for gp4. You will need to turn alot of stuff off to get smooth and responsive action.

I am using 30.82 with my new GF4MX440 clocked at 275/300mhz. I didn't expect much upgrading from a Hercules GF2mx but for only $110 aussie dollars I thought what the heck. Anyway it was well worth it... before Igot 30fps but now I still got 30fps but I can turn on AA x 2 and the picture looks so much sweeter :)

Are there any better/faster drivers for the GF4MX440 ? I tried Det 42.30 but it was a cow and ran slower.

On my old Herc GF2MX the fastest drivers for GP4 were always the Herc 14.10 drivers.

different drivers react different on different machines. It depends on all your other programs and ardware and stuff. If u got good ones, stick with em. cant remember the ones im running, 40.xx i think, and it runs great

i had gp4 PO under 100 once.
but also had a blue screen with gp3.
i wasnt sure which driver i had (and didnt bother checkin -lazY), so tried 41.09 nad realised thats what i had originally.
btw 41.09 = 4.1.0.9

tried 30.82 also and 42.30
no change.
so i'll format hd and see what happens.

is this how to do multi installs:
install to ..\gp4\
rename to ..\gp4_1\
reinstall to ..\gp4\

thanks all.
