Can't Configure my Keyboard in GPX335

Well, I keep trying, but to no avail. I want to assign brake and gears to different keys....but I just can't do it (it's the GPX Patch 335 BTW ). I can set different controls on a normal launch, but not the patched one. I go through the same sort of motions (IE: here there and everywhere), and when i do set the controlsm I click back, ok or whatever, but in when the game starts, it makes no difference, and reverts back to default.

I want number pad 1 for left, 3 for right, 2 for brake. and Accel goes on A, Gears on others. but doesn't want to know. Maybe you can't do it in the patched version i don't know, but someone tell me please to save me time (Will be getting a wheel way funds come my way,

start GPxPatch, click on Edit key binds...
change these:
Game_ControlSteerRight=.
Game_ControlSteerLeft=,
Game_ControlBrake=Z
Game_ControlAccelerate=A
Game_ControlShiftUp=SPACE
Game_ControlShiftDown=SHIFT
