Help with GP4

Hi there,

I am new to this forum, but have in the past posted the odd message on the old GP3 forum.

I'm having troubles with GP4. Every time I run it, it freezes and when it does that, it crashes my computer. When it does that, i have to restart the whole computer. I've tried uninstalling Gp4 altogether and reinstall it, but it keeps doing it. Please help me what is going wrong so I can play it without crashing on me.

Many thanks

Welcome to the forum ckmcnally!

It would help a lot if you posted your system specs as well :)

Have you tried getting the Gp4 patch - i know it might sound like a last resort but it may help you.

Otherwise try getting gpxpatch and running it in debug mode.

Welcome btw ;)

I use GpxPatch. I've tried it in debug and it still does it!

I'm afraid it's pointless to play it. So I won't play it all... :-(

After all this time - still getting problems re GP4 not running
I binned mine and now happily running GP3 - I have tried just about everything including writing to the game makers and trawled just about every site on the internet for an answer not to mention trying a few tricks myself I have picked up over the years as an ardent Micropose GP user! I firmly believe there is no current solution to your problem, as you will find out!
Just check all the hits on this and other GP4 forums about this game not running
IF you do find a solution,PLEASE tell - I would be very grateful !
Regards Colin

i'm sure some people have no troubles.
and others cant run it at all.
i'm somewhere in between. it runs sometimes and blue screens other times.

most recent bsod's:
page_fault_in_non_paged_area
and
kmode_exception_not_handled

they both refer to nv4_disp.dll which is an nVidia display driver file.
meaning: bad driver.

but i've tried many 43.30, 41.09. 30.82, 31.00 and more. none have made much difference.
i now have 31.00 (from msi) and it had the above problems, but i put VERTICAL SYNC to ALWAYS OFF in the OPEN GL SETTINGS (right click on desktop, settings, advanced, GeForce Tab, additional props -or something), and things have improved.

theres lots of little tweaks to do to the game and to your pc that may improve things. and getting the right display driver makes a difference.
but most systems are different and need different drivers.

one other thing that may cause probs is bad hardware - memory/graphics card/procesor/???

from what i've seen gp4 is better than gp3 in detail and other things (but not track selection & other things) and worth atleast some effort to get it going.

well. goo luk

The only other problem that i can think of, is how you are running the game and what mods as in carshapes you are using. Try running it with the lowest settings possible. I'm using my laptop to run GP4 and let me tell you I get blistering performance;-)

My specs are

Cel 900mhz
15 gig HD
240mb Ram (16 for Graphics Card)
16 MB Trident Cyberblade XP

I can run GP4 in 640*480 with everything set to low and manage 15 fps.
I have never done a race in GP4 either. I have to resort to selecting 2 drivers, selecting player cars only and running it in hotseat mode.:-(

Cheers

JPM
