It will always be impossible to draw up a fair comparison between Ayrton and Bruno. For starters and not probably not very relevantly it's unlike most other "next generation" racing drivers in motorsport. Bruno is not the descendent of Ayrton.

But what is relevant is that the eras are completely different, and added to that their preparation for motorsport are worlds apart. Ayrton Karted for pretty much all of his childhood and then went onto pretty much dominate the junior formulae before reaching F1. Bruno had a gap of about a decade in his karting apprenticeship and got to car racing relatively late compared to his peers. So has always been up against rivals who have more racing experience than him.

Ayrton was clearly the talent of his era, even if Bruno got to be technically a better driver than Ayrton it's unlikey he'll be viewed as the best. They are simply too many other drivers in that talent pool, with cars more closely matched than in Ayrton's era. It's unlikely that Bruno is going to join the Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel group.

I think he could have a decent enough career in F1. But he's never going to be someone at the sharp end of the grid for long.

Think mortal was describing Bruno as the possible crash test dummy, which is what I was getting at.

I was watching that Imola race and a friend who watched it with me said "We just lost Wayne Rainey (paralysed from a race crash), now we might lose Senna" Then we saw Senna's head move and thought that he was fine. We were wrong. To me, that weekend with Roland Ratzenberger dying, Senna dying and and Wendlinger getting badly hurt just before that, seemed like yesterday.

The human body with a brain injury would tend to spasm at that point...

I've read 'The Life Of Senna' by Tom Rubython. An enlightening read, I must say.

Actually, it was Rubens who got badly hurt before both deaths. Karl Wendlinger had his horrifying crash the following race at Monaco
