I think if you edited the race to have just the words Lewis and Hamilton, the show would probably still run for about half an hour! ;)

The petition is useless and will not get any recognition from anyone at ITV. James Allen is getting better over time (if we excuse JB's win last year).

I do agree (to an extent)that ITV (especially Steve Ryder) does talk about LH rather too much. Even Mark knows not to push it, but Steve goes on and on. He rarely mentions FA and he's the one who's won the two races at McLaren so far this year. He's also the current double World Champ which should mean more.

I wont be adding my name to that useless petition, though...

Don't forget that Steve Rider is just the frontman for what the production team want him to say...

To be honest I think that all this Lewis Hamilton hype is only amplifying the James Allen problem. Sometimes it's difficult to separate the two, and for me it's definitely the Hamilton stuff which is more annoying than James himself.

lol :)

and yes, Steve is only saying what's on his script, mostly written by the production crew.

@ Toby, but James was quite annoying even before Hamilton was on the scene.

without James, the Hamilton stuff would still be annoying, but with him, it's unbearable.

James Allen is a useless piece of meat as a commentator a chimp could do a better job than him. Steve Ryder is told to say all the crap about Hamilton Allen chooses to say it.

He couldn't tell which Ferrari driver was out first in Q3 of Bahrain even though the cameraman done a big close up of the drivers before the green light went on and clearly showed Hamilton, Raikkonen then Massa. He thought there were only one Spyker on the track in Bahrain even though Sutil was the car following Albers. On Saturday in Q2 he couldn't tell which Ferrari driver had parked it at Rasscas even though the helmet colours are the complete opposite, I could tell as soon as the picture came on.

Yes but remember how old Murray was, in the past when Murray would make a mistake he often would correct himself later, something i rarely hear from James Allen.

it was kinda "cute" when Murray did it, but James is just annoying when he does it :)

Sounds like Martin saying Massa to me..

Apart from the Lewis Hamilton (or Button last year) bias I don't mind James, and it wouldn't surprise me if hes given a list of notes to fill the gaps when not much is happening in the race, mostly full of Lewis facts.

^^ Hungary 06. Jenson crossing the line, James Allen goes nuts

Monaco GP Coverage was basically Hamilton all the way and the interview with Hakkinen was stupid, like he cares what a british driver is doing he is finnish. I have Monaco 96 Race were Damon hill lead from the start and retired (panis won) And murray treated the hill incident like any other big name going out no matter what country. His commentary was fun, light-hearted and infomative as he had Jonathan Palmer to talk to about cause of crashes and pit stops. Bit like Kravitz (who isn't bad.) Brundle is Drowned out by James Allen going HAMILTON! Not saying hamilton is bad he is very good, There was no need for him to say about following the wrong car in qualifying (Fisichella) At that time hamilton was first and on a very slightly better lap. Fisi was on a much better lap and it got him high up the grid at that time. If ITV Had control of the cameras it would be like

''And Raikkonen is on course for pole now let's look at Lewis Hamilton going out on his warmup lap''

Liuzzi and Rosberg deserved more attention then the brief comment they got. I would love murray back but that won't happen so I say get Ben Edwards or Damon Hill to commentate

Bah! That video sickens me!

As a Button fan I've waited for his first F1 victory since 2000, and it was literally completely ruined by that idiot of a man. The commentary on the build up to it was quite good, but from when he exited the final corner it was just the worst piece of commentary, or even television, that I've ever seen in all my life.

i swear you guys are going over the top with criticising this clip, i cant find anything wrong...i mean take the same sort of thing when england won the cricket, or italian commentators when italy scores in the world cup. THAT is over the top.

he is cheering, its emotional, james allens fave driver wins his first race, so he is excited.

imagine a monotone, jenosn has won the race. he is the winner of hungary.

you'd all complain he was a robot commentator with no emotion or enthusiasm.

commentry is there to be listened to and act as an aid to the atmosphere of not being at the track itself. allen brought that passion of british fans and the excitment of jenosn winning to peoples homes.

if you dont liek jenson then thats the case you may not have enjoyted it as much, probably because he was bummed to hell by itv for so long. i know for sure that i wont enjoy lewis winning his first race, IF he does, because it has been hyped too much already. itll be like yeah...is this it? boring, he has enough hype as it is.

jenson was different his hype had died down quiet a lot, still big, but dwindling.

commentary on tv is suppose to portray the passion of being there, not a reel of stats and data. you might as well just watch the race with sound off via bbc ceefax page 361 lap by lap.

if you dont like that, listen to radio, which is like listening to a reel of stats and facts which IS dull.

its just passionate about their own thing/nation/thing they follow. you can;t blame him!

imagine your horse you just bet 500 quid on at 66-1 wins the grand national. you'd be extatic!

Jenson drives it like he owns it; Lewis drives it like he stole it

If you were going to write a script for Jenson Button winning is first race, then James Allen read the autocue to perfection. That wasn't emotion, it was pure, forced shouting. He couldn't have come across less bothered if he'd tried.

Just for comparison to the Hungary clip, listen to Ben Edwards in the commentary for the Montoya vs Andretti clip in the CART thread. That's real excitement, but even though he is practically screaming it doesn't seem nearly as forced as James.

Hear hear. Excited but dignified, versus badly-disguised orgasm.
