Everything in that post is just about spot on. This is Formula 1. Maybe the BMW wings were dangerous, but the damper the Renault using was not. Formula 1 is about development, trying new ideas, getting the maximum out of the car. Making the engine last two races prevents getting the maximum out of the car, and that's just one example.

Oh, and Bernie Ecclestone only owns the commercial rights to F1, and he's sold most of it.

Ive seen some CAD pictures of a re-constructed F106 cocpit and at highspeed I could imagine the wings being a distraction, but if Nick says it was ok, then I guess it was ok.
