anybody see it?

Who actually won then? offcially?

Castronevis got accross the line first, and in victory lane, him and the penski team were celebrating, but i actually think paul tracey won the race

What happened -

with just two laps left, Tracey is wheel to wheel to Castronevis, Tracey on the outside of Turn 3, Castronevis on the inside. Theres an accident at turn 2 with two cars, the caution is put out, and of course, its an oval so its a full course yellow, saftey car deployed, so we know the race will finish under caution.

BUT whislt Tracy and Castronevis are wheel to wheel, castronevis suddenly slows, fuel looks like the problem, we had been worrying bout castronevis because of his odd pit stop sequence. The commentators didnt think it would be possible for him to reach the end of the race. And if it wasnt for this caution on lap 199 of 200 they would have been right.

So as they go under yellow, Tracey is AHEAD of Castronevis. But as soon as this happen, the cars all slow down (becasue of safety car) and Castronevis repass's Tracey UNDER FULL COURSE YELLOW, claiming that Tracey had passed under yellow and Castronevis rightly held 1st position. Not risking a penatly, Tracey and Team Green do not repass Castronevis and Castronevis cross's the line P1

According to Franchitti, running behind these two, but a lap down, Tracey was ahead BEFORE the yellow was out out, so Tracey rightly had the place. The replys showed that Traecy was slightly ahead when the yellow was deployed and clearly Castronevis would not have made it to the flag if the race had finished under green.

So, who won? Well Penski and Castronevis were sure they won, since they got over the line first, but Tracy/Team Green/Franchitti and the TV cameras think that Castronevis passed under yellow and P1 should be awarded to Tracey and Team Green

apparently Team Green have already filed a complaint.

Intresting end to a very exciting race

It WAS televised on Eurosport yesterday. Don't know if there will be reruns though. Maybe you can catch it on their news or so.

Team Green had filed a complaint which will be heard at noon on monday. So we'll just wait and see...

Yo Sup

ok, i got it wrong, but the result is still confusing

Castronevis and Tracey were wheel to wheel when the yellow came out, castronevis runs out of fuel, Tracey pass's him but the pass didnt count and tracey was still shown in P2 altho he was ahead on the track.

The cameras show that Tracey was AHEAD of Castronevis when the yellow was shown, so TRACEY is the race winner, not Castronevis

It was televised again today on sky Sports, prob will be on again soon

The result stands though. Castroneves was declared the official winner, even after the appeal by Team Green. Kinda odd, since I think they had strong evidence.

ARGH, that sucks, Tracey had no choice but to pass him, Tracey deserves the win, had the race had 1 more lap (even under yellow) Tracey would have won cos the penski would have run out of fuel

sorry, thats really pissing me off now, tracey deserved the win. I like castronevis as much as the next guy, but that win really should go to tracey :@

Castronevis went 46 laps without refueling - a record at Indy (avg is 30 laps)

It's not really sure wheter Castroneves would run out of fuel during the final lap. He would 've certainly given everything to stay ahead on that last lap, and if he would run out of fuel: tough break then. So we don't really know who would've actually won.

But I think the result stands because all of the ceremonies were done with Castroneves. If they had to change the result the day after, IRL would look kinda stupid. Maybe they even had his name scratched on the trophy by the evening :)

Well he defaintly would have, he baiclly coasted round the last lap under safety car, he was already passed by Tracey.

tracey had no choice but to pass, or hit the brakes at 220pmh whislt on a oval, not good idea with angry pack of 20cars behind you
