He saved so many drivers' lives, and now he's lost his own. :(

RIP

RIP Sid Watkins. Helped make F1 far safer than the olden days...a huge loss.

Perhaps he can finally go fishing with Ayrton...

Oh no. :(

He was only recently at... was it the BTCC at Snetterton?

Probably the most influential figure in F1 who wasn't involved as a competitor or a politician.

RIP Sid.

Very sad news :(

There are so many drivers still with us who would have otherwise died.

Top job, the guy should have been knighted.

RIP.

Such a shame. I think the amount of sad-but-happy-in-remembrance tweets from literally every motorsports-related Twitter account I follow says it all about him as a person.

That guy saved so many lifes. A huge example was Rubens Barrichello in that very sad weekend at Imola. I've never been able to read his book, but I've read an article he wrote on Senna for Reader's Digest, and also watched his part on the Senna documentary. That feeling he had, that conversation he had with Ayrton, gives me the creeps.

RIP Professor. You are with Ayrton now. :(

Genuinely sad to hear. RIP to someone who was a legend in F1 for all the right reasons. :(
