While his big brother Michael Schumacher was announced as Mercedes Grand Prix driver last week Ralf Schumacher now too eyes a comeback to Formula 1. After spending two years in the DTM series for Mercedes the 34-year-old now wishes to return to the sport he loves most.

"I feel that my desires to race in Formula 1 are still there," Ralf Schumacher told German magazine Bild. According to the magazine Ralf Schumacher already turned down an offer from one of the new Formula 1 teams but did not accept the offer. "There must be a challenge, it is not about money but what we can achieve with the team.

"I know that my reputation suffered during my time at Toyota but I left that behind me. I know what I can do and I feel ready to do it again."

I quite liked Ralf.

Though he was always an easy target ;)! I thought Ralf was capable of good things, but it seemed he just wasnt head-strong enough for F1 success. I certainly would welcome his return. The guy is younger than I thought. and quite the character imo! Then again, F1 would soon like The world verses the Germans :p

His rep did suffer at TF but then so has Trulli's imo, and pretty much every driver driven for them! Glock aside.

hm, tbh I think Salo, McNish, Panis and Glock did all right.

Ralf isn't worth bringing back. New talent. Not old rubbish.

I agree that Ralf isn't worth bringing back. There are still a few better options available than him, i think

F1 hasn't missed him in the slightest, so bringing him back would be a waste of a seat IMO.

Ralf is just - as always - jealous of Michael. That he has now admitted that in public, does not make it a more viable option to offer him a drive.

Ralf has had an offer from a team but he's turned it down?! (Allowing for the fact it's Bild, of course)
LMAO! Ralf, you tit! He's hardly in a position to pick and choose...

If I miss anything about Ralf it's his comedy value, which is a shame, because he was actually a top driver in his own right. I personally would have no problem with it if he did make a comeback but, meh, it won't be happening. Like Dave says, teams will be interested in bringing on new talent rather than resurrecting someone who is a known quantity but would be unlikely to set the world on fire.

With names like de la Rosa and Wurz occasionally popping up as being considered for 2010 i don't see Ralf dropping a hint as such a big deal.

If de la Rosa and Wurz can get a drive, Ralf's services should be like gold dust.

Unfortunately, Willi Weber will ask for ten times what other experienced drivers would ask, and that's the stumbling block.

If Willi Weber is asking for money then it is a massive stumbling block, since he hasn't managed Ralf for almost half a decade.

I dont expect Ralf to make it... his career ended in Indy GP 2004... after that crash he had never recovered totally

yes after this

he nver recoverd. But i still think if he continued the run he had in mid 2003 he could have won the championship just like JPM.

I don't think that accident had as much of an effect as people say. It just happened to coincide with him signing for the most lacklustre and under performing team on the grid.

by saying he "turned down an offer", they didn't need to write "but did not accept the offer", we understood that from the first part of the sentence.

Ralf wouldn't even be the best driver in a group of just him.

and he wouldn't be returning to the sport he loved the most, he wants a return to the money he loved the most. boy he and his manager sure took Toyota for a hell of a ride!

please don't come back Ralf, you were sh!t last time.

LOL, I see what you're getting at. I'm reminded of Red Sam's comment about Jenson a while back.
My point is that Ralf did achieve some success in his own right, but that seems to get overlooked because it pales into relative insignificance alongside Michael's success.

Im not so sure, I certainly rememeber the best about Ralf rather than the worst. Besides that it would be wrong to compare the two brothers or to even expect Ralf could be any bit as good as his older bro because that simply would have been impossible. Michael was simply something else... Ralf did good things for Williams, and his 99 season for example should never go overlooked ;-)!

Bah. Once they're out of the limelight I don't keep track of them.

i'm a big Ralf fan and i would love to see him in F1, but being realistic, this doesn't seem good... he had some good moments in his time at Toyota but his last year was mostly horrible except for a few performances at the end of the year.
like dave said i don't think the crash had any effect on him as he came back strong for the last races of that year.. i think is more like the personal problems with his whore wife that affect on him as chet said, he doesn't seem to be head strong to keep that outside the cockpit.

now, would slick tyres be the reason for this old farts to try comebacks? Villeneuve, DeLa Rosa, Wurz, Ralf...?
Fisichella was a young promise just like Ralf back in the day and last year he seemed to found some of that lost talent (in FI obviously).

apparently you don't need to be as precise with slicks as you need with grooves and maybe that's the reason?

well big brother Michael will most likely move a lot of money in merchandising, and using the last name for another team might be helpfull as well, but i reckon if he gets a drive he won't get paid a dime... probably a $ by point scored contract?

every team in F1 knows how Toyota were fooled into signing him because of his surname, thinking that having any Schumacher was better than not having one at all, and so won't want to make the same mistake.

You could say that the other way round too. Ralf was fooled into signing for Toyota because having a Toyota drive was better than having no drive, but now we know not to make that mistake!
