Why bother?

Okay whilst your on the step ladder on your way to F1, le mans, IRL or whatever I can understand, but once you've reached your top step why bother?

From what ive seen they cause more hassle than good...

I am no doubt talking about Button here. His managment company is private of Button (ie not family, not friends) and they get a cut from Buttons pay, so the more he gets the more they get. I feel right now with the current going ons they are ill advising Button. Managers will not look for the best deal for you, but for the best deal for them, and their family! If they could get Button £30million at STR then £4million at Ferrari who'd you think would win?? Kimi's managers (formerly Jensons I believe??) pulled of a HUGE coup with Ferrari, and well done to them but now whilst Kimi needs a drive they are demanding stupid amounts of money!

Im sure in both cases Button and Kimi just want to do whats right for them, ie Brawn for Button and Mclaren for Kimi but that's not happening. I realize both drivers are capable of thinking for themselves and should realize whats best for them but when your being advised by people you depend on I imagine its difficult to diverge from that.

Basically, Button and Kimi should rid their managers and sign up for the rightful teams. F1 is pretty open and friendly it seems... Take Alonso's move to Mclaren... it started when Ron went to congratulate Alonso on his 2005 championship and Alonso said he'd like to drive for Mclaren. What's so difficult about that? Middle men always f*ck things up!

its annoying me because I can seriously see Button being f*cked over here if he doesnt make up his mind. He needs to step back have a look and think because it would seem he isnt thinking at all! I would not blame Brawn for saying "f*ck you Button, Hello Heidfeld"

"Trulli was slowing down like he wanted to have a picnic" LOL

I agree up to F1 managers are usefull with their contacts and what not, but not needed once you in F1. Seems f1 drivers just become too lazy and want everything to be done for them so that they can just turn up and drive.....

Without managers, I can guarantee Kimi wouldn't be getting $50M for not driving a Ferrari in 2010!

2013 - Nando must come through..

It's not just finding out the best deals, but getting access to the right and best available legal advice that is essential. The contract any driver signs is the critical part of any deal, more so than the money or sometimes even team.

Even after the contract there is PR work, personal sponsorship, paperwork, etc. A drivers' secretary couldn't do that.

Anyway, it's just advice - Button wouldn't sign for a worse team if they doubled his salary just off the back of what his management would say. He's more than capable of looking after number 1, and Kimi even more so.

the megabucks era is over (bye-bye Toyota ;-))

driver pecking order isn't as simple as it was just a few years ago (rookie matching a world champion, Massa being as good as Raikkonen, a largely ignored driver like Button having an uncontested run to the title etc)

the competition is intense and you're asking why the need for a manager?

Berger never used to have a manager. And he drove for 2 top teams (Ferrari and McLaren)

Neither does Vettel, and Webber also plans to have no official manager now that Flavio is gone.

Yes, Berger was IIRC the last driver who managed himself. Interesting to hear that Mark Webber is also considering that route, however.

LOL at the suggestion of a 22yr-old boy managing his own contracts. :D
