It's good news to have this circuit's future secure, it's continuity, and shows at least that Tilke's trashing of the original track almost certainly has helped it stay on the calendar longer than it would've done otherwise.

No way! The old Hockenheim might not have been a Monaco or a Spa but at least, as said already, it was something different. The new one is a typical Tilkedrome - bland, boring, characterless mediocrity. The one obvious advantage it has over the original is for spectators at the track, who get to see more of each race.

Because it was unique. Close racing on the old track made for electrifying viewing, the proximity of the trees to the track emphasised just how fast the cars were going whenever you got an onboard shot. There were a lot of high-speed slipstreaming battles, and whenever a car or tyre failed it failed spectacularly, usually due to being under maximum stress at 220mph. None of these things will happen at the new Hockenheimring, and it will
never host a race like the one we saw in 2000, for example.
