"Hockenheim has put in place a deal to secure the future of the German Grand Prix until 2018.

Its great to see the German GP secured for another 9 years! While the modern Hockenheim is nowhere near as glorious as the long track, it is still one of the better Tilke tracks we have on the calendar.

The new Hockenheim is ten times the old track, why do people love such a crap, boring layout so much?? Hearing that the new circuit has secured a long-term deal is excellent news for Formula 1.

Ugh, the new circuit is boring. I don't think the old circuit was amazing or anything but at least it was different, the new one is just trash.

The old lay out was a right hand corner, which still is there, 3 chicanes, and the arena part, which still is there, so all they did is remove a few straights + chicanes, we have Monza already for that. New lay out is excellent imo.

Dicing between the trees at 210mph+, braking over bumpy tarmac, the car twitching this way and that. While the core layout was similar to Monza, they were completely different in key areas.

Even on GPx I got a buzz driving Hockenheim. It must have been mildy terrifying in reality, and it was (in)famously suicidal in the rain.

I miss the old layout. New one is too boring.
In GP4 is its easy to manage 1m13 hotlap and in race 1m14.5
in race.

It's good news to have this circuit's future secure, it's continuity, and shows at least that Tilke's trashing of the original track almost certainly has helped it stay on the calendar longer than it would've done otherwise.

No way! The old Hockenheim might not have been a Monaco or a Spa but at least, as said already, it was something different. The new one is a typical Tilkedrome - bland, boring, characterless mediocrity. The one obvious advantage it has over the original is for spectators at the track, who get to see more of each race.

Because it was unique. Close racing on the old track made for electrifying viewing, the proximity of the trees to the track emphasised just how fast the cars were going whenever you got an onboard shot. There were a lot of high-speed slipstreaming battles, and whenever a car or tyre failed it failed spectacularly, usually due to being under maximum stress at 220mph. None of these things will happen at the new Hockenheimring, and it will never host a race like the one we saw in 2000, for example.

I still find it hard to believe some people diss the old Hockenheim and praise the current one. I agree 100% with Gav and Ed.
