The new mayor of Rome wants the city to host a GP in 2011 in the EUR district. A preview video is here

Comment from a citizen of Rome: I love F1, but Rome has too many problem to be solved to host a F1 GP.

already a thread here [www.grandprixgames.org]

however, it did get majorly side-tracked, so a new thread might not be so bad an idea ;)

If they really do it, I'll go there (where the circuit will be - the race will definitely be expensive!) and take photos...

Would be nice if they'd allow a Popemobile entry!

If that's the proposal then I don't see it getting very far with Bernie. It has no oomph.

If there is going to be a Rome Grand Prix on the streets, then it has to take in much more of the stunning architecture, be not so far away from some of the ancient ruins. Imagine the Colosseum in the backdrop etc.

Otherwise... it's be like a London Grand Prix on the streets of Peckham, or a Paris Grand Prix with out the Eiffel tower in site.

Obviously my street knowledge of these venues is lacking, so I'll make that clear now if anyone wants to provide [citation].

Nothing.

Rome Grand Prix is not meant as a threat to Monza which would still be host of the Italian Grand Prix.

a potential layout has been announced:

[www.f1fanatic.co.uk]

looks quite a simple track, there doesn't look like much, if any, good overtaking opportunities.

The only overtaking oppurtunity I can see is that hair pin like corner down the bottom - and even that isn't very good.

Another Tilke - yawn - fest methinks.

Track looks interesting for formula1, but only so long as it have this amount of traffic.. ;)

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?

from the link it seems that people in Northern Italy see it as a threat to their race

also seems a bit on the expensive side for a street track

edit: Flins/Les Mureaux is supposed to cost "only" 112 million as opposed to 160 in Rome

it looks like the trackmap on that link was the wrong one;

here is a revised one;

you can get the google maps view of the track here: [www.f1fanatic.co.uk]

and a video of the track;

">
" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">

[]

that looks like a more interesting track, and it seems to be in quite a nice area from the video and the StreetView pics.

Correct if im wrong, but Romes in Italy right?

And doesnt Italy have a race track, called something like Monza?

So if we got to Rome, what happens to the already perfectly fine Monza?

No GP in Italy, no matter how picturesque and beautiful compares to Monza. Why do we need to change it? FO Bernie!
