I like the current one, but knockout after each lap, all cars there at once with 20 laps? Could be bit chaotic, hard to follow, exciting as well.

Why change it? It's good now. Only Q3 needs to get rid of that race fuel crap. I don't like the new format at all. People will complain a lot about traffic and what will decide the order they will race in?

hmm,

yeah the start sounds a bit mental.

If they were going to make any changes to the rules, i'd personally like to see

a point for fastest lap.

And allow cars that are pushed back onto the circuit by the marshalls to rejoin the race. As we fewer starters these days it seems a shame to have cars out if theres nothing actually wrong with them. (or nothing that a quick pitstop wouldn't fix).

Sucks.

I thought Qualifying was about to find who is the fastest.

Formula 1 is losing all its meaning to the sport. I thought it was about whos the fastest, not who is the most consistent monkey!

I want the old 90's 1h qualifying back, hotlaps galore! ;)

I dont like this idea, all you need to be held up or 1 locked brake and you could be out.

It works fine as it is :( why do they constantly have to bugger about with qualy? Whats wrong with nominating your starting fuel before Q3 and then going out on low fuel? You'd get all the cars going their fastest and doing the hotlaps everyone wants and then after the session, they'd just get refuelled to their nominated level. Would be interesting cos then you'd have to guess what position you'd start in and hope you get your strategy right to match. Say if you fuel light for a 3 stop but dont manage to get your qualy lap sorted, you're further down the grid but light on fuel so you'd have to overtake.

don't agree with the new proposal - the current version is by and large fine, and we need at least some continuity from 2008.

I agree!

One of the reasons we left 12-lpa qualy was teams moaning about coverage, or lack of to be specific.
This would be far worse.

Once again the FIA and Bernie are not man enough to simply go back to what works well, and what we all love. 12laps 1hour - let them go!

If that was the complaint, in a 1h qualifying format with unlimited laps and free fuel would give way more coverage than the knockout system.

Frankly, if a team is knocked out early, they get much less coverage than teams that make it to Q3. So the complaint would still stand there anyway.

its not coverage of the teams, it was the fact that no teams went out at all during the first 30mins of the hour session. easy fix, give them a penalty if they dont go out.

Just give teams 7 laps to do in the first half hour and another 7 in the second half hour...or 6 - 7 w/e and those laps must be completed unless there is a breakdown.

The reason the top teams didn't go out for the first half hour was because they simply didn't need 12 laps. I remember MS only having to use 6 or 7 laps to be on pole at some races.

The current system is fine. Get rid of the race fuel, like Fincent says, and it's going to be perfect.

Not a complaint, I too love knockout. Its exciting, though you do realize was his pole due being a simply stunning lap or was it due to fuel. 12lap got rid of these kind of variables. It was more often the case the quicker driver achieved pole. In 2002 I think qualifying was the most exciting thing to watch!

With this new rule, consitency would also be vital during qualifying. That would add another element of skill - which drivers can be quick enough to advance, but also keep a cool head?

Imagining it seems quite fun. "And Nelson Piquet is OUT!" "Heidfeld is knocked out after a scrappy lap! Who will be next?" "It is Jenson Button!!" It would be the same knock-out qualy that we have now... but more personal :P
