Yup, that first one sprang in mind too, but that was before I watched F1, so not a real memory for me ;)

fantastic guy, although I didnt like him at beggining. When vacancy occured in Williams I was still wery immature (12 and half).
In those few weeks betweeb Imola and Spain, there were a lot of talks who will fill second williams seat. I rooted for someone like Chr. Fittipaldi because
he was brazilian and had famous uncle (I was a bit like bruninho back then), and I thought it will make him decent enough replacement. My next wish was someone like Patrese or Mansell (all those possibilities were talked about)
But then Frank Williams opted for his unknown test driver that looked like Dolph Lundgren. I thought, WTF. Whos that guy?

well, 14 years later we know whos that guy. And I think it was worth assigning him for replacement role. Well done FW.

I used to like DC early in his career but that stopped around 2000

yes, i think DC may have gone one year too long unfortunately. This year he was awful really, causing several silly accidents and languishing around the back of the pack. its no surprise that webber has easily beaten him this year.

I'm glad that he'll retire this year. He's a waste of a decent F1 seat atm.

But yes, I have never liked him or his performances. Someone who crashes entering the pits when leading the Adelaide Grand Prix certainly wouldnt win a title in F1...

Yet a man who crashed into another car on reconnaissance lap on the way to the grid, and then later spun out under safety car conditions at China somehow wound up with 7 championships.

Know what... this picture above the only good thing I can see from DC - giving the finger to the 7 times world's best F1 driver. ;)

Edit: You have been warned about your 'cheater' rants.

DC was a cool bloke. His character will be missed, although he will attend every GP next year as a consultant for RedBull...

I liked his comments and accent too. He was, in comparison with other drivers, a good speaker (ofcourse also because his native language was English, as it isn't for a lot of other drivers), and always willing to give some nice comments, but mostly not as harsh as for example Irvine's or Villeneuve's quotes.

Tbh I was never a huge fan of David, when I first watched F1 around 98-99 he was being beaten by Hakkinen almost all the time, in the races and in qualifying

To me he was always a 2nd driver especially after 1998-2001, he never ever looked like he would be a champion and could only win when others had problems

The dislike was probably also to do with me being a Ferrari fan at the time, no one likes the opposition to their team ;)

However since 2005 I've liked David a lot more, thought what he did at Red Bull was great :)

But as Ed said he's probably been around a year longer than he should of been :(

Good bloke, glad he's on the BBC next year, has good opinions and as a driver wasn't afraid to put a move on a driver when he could. Good British driver, be missed

I like the guy. I never considered him a top driver, but a good veteran at Red Bull. Maybe 2008 has been too much, but a remarcable career.

According to f1-facts (and their way of cuantify it), he will be the driver with worse record against team-mates. Quite an achivement considering that he has had quite a few team-mates.

But there is also a few very good numbers: 7 straight seasons winning at least one race, not bad.

I've always liked DC, he always spoke above everyone and got his point across. Sad to see him go really, he was really a great driver in my books.

Happy Retirement DC!
