Results of Eastern Creek Feasibility Study Revealed

For those who don't remember, Eastern Creek is the Sydney track trying to steal the F1 from melbourne. despite melbourne's contract, the results of the feasibility study conducted over the past few months have been released, and i must say it looks fantastic!

they have reversed the direction to clockwise, made an 'amphitheatre' at the new turn 1, and created a development that significantly improves the site, but can be built in 2 years using 70% of the current track. all they need to do is add lights and find bernie ;)

The Government here in NSW has also proposed after much lobbying from V8 Supercars, a street track around the 2000 Olympics site, but Eastern Creek can be used all year around for both international, national and club racing as well as driver/motorcycle training, as well as the skid pan. It seems only one of the two will be developed, so hopefully they make the right choice!

PFFF

I'd rather stay at melbourne, a fast and flowing circuit with an entertaining and tricky fast Clark Chicane (ffs Kubica gave us a show there at the start of the season with a stunning lap!)

This is interesting - the stuff in red is the existing track that would remain

Given the choice of spending on the Creek or Homebush, I vote for Eastern Creek. Both would be nice though...
I have to say that I prefer Melbourne aswell. A very nice fast and flowing circuit, with some good action (sometimes) and in a good location, with nice scenery.

The new layout looks good, but I wouldn't give it any greater compliment than that. I certainly looks to have a different style to all of the other tracks on the F1 calender, but it doesn't look like there'd be much of an atmosphere. I'd like to be proven wrong, though!

To go to this would be disastrous as it only has a couple of straights meaning it would be a monaco-esque race imo. Melbourne should stay, I like it gives a great feeling to the start of the season

it has far more straights than melbourne, so i cant see your logic there :S

Have to say it's very Tilke-like. Lots of ever-tightening corners. Like his tracks you could point at many corners and compare it to a similar one on another equally bland track. That's not to say it's bad, but it doesn't scream 'classic' at me.

That said, it's got a half-decent over-taking opportunity. Hairpin onto a decent straight into a possibly challenging corner onto a long straight into a slow corner.
I was against Eastern Creek at first, but this seems like it would be a good track, plus they are actually willing to spend the money to upgrade everything.

I do live 5 mins away from the track, so it would be handy compared to the 10 hour drive!

2013 - Nando must come through..

Melbourne has never disapointed to provide a good race, why change it?

"Trulli was slowing down like he wanted to have a picnic" LOL
Going anti-clockwise would look great, using the outside parts of the track
yes, the current track is anti-clockwise with a much faster turn 1, but f1 regulations say there must be a long straight followed by a tight corner for overtaking, hence the change.

here is the current track

the track maintenance is looking worse than Rio circuit...

the pitlane is damn small, and the track layout is boring and small...

Melbourne 4 ever!

Exactly!

If the circuit were to run clockwise, it would be nigh-on impossible for one car to follow another throug that fast final turn - it's a lot like the final complex at Barcelona used to be, and whilst on paper it was a clear overtaking opportunity, we all know the reality.

i guess they'll just put a chicane like Barcelona at turn 1
As stated above why get rid of something that works? Melbourne is my favourite track to watch and drive round on GP4.

Also, i cant really see with current spec cars the space and right corners for any realistic overtaking....

Also... on a windy day the tip across the road tends to smell quiet bad!

I did say above I wouldnt mind it if they are willing to spend the money, but the Creek really is a hole, there is nothing nearby for 'nightlife' except in the City which is a 45min-1hr drive east,

Please, lets stay in Melbourne

yes, if bernie ever bothered to go there he would realise this.

the upgrade would make the track suitable for A1GP, V8 Supercars and other stuff, but not F1

So its in the middle of nowhere? Like Magny cours which has been dumped for that very reason ???

If theres no F1 whats the use in the upgrade? Its already good enough for V8's and probably A1GP aswell.

I've always had a soft spot for Eastern Creek having seen it int he A1GP, V8 Supercars and rced it on numerous games so I think if they could get it up to scratch it would be a good alternative. At the moment, although I like Melbourne, it's nothing special and I'd hate to see F1 leave Ozzyland.

My favorite choice would have to be Philip Island for the F1, it flows so nicely but of course nowadays it is not the track which counts but the money behind it
