Anyway, 2 weeks on and Heikki seems to have recovered from his crash. This weekend will see only 10 teams competing in the World Championship due to SA's departure. Let the discussions BEGIN! :p

By friday I should have a lap description! :)

... but for now I know that Turn 8 will put a lot of weight over the front right tyre, teams will be focusing suspension and aero efficiency for this turn... Wurz has said that a minimum apex speed of 250 kph is good for this corner.

Theres a lot of elevations, medium to high downforce, though theres a big straight (~315-320 kph) before the last tight corners. A car-setup compromise must be reached to cope with this combination of turns. The curbs arent hard to take so the suspension can be a little bit more stiffer, but not much as it has to follow smoothly the track elevations. 61% of a lap around the Istanbul Otodrom is spent at full throttle, certainly a good test for engine reliability. The track has a good grip level as the tarmac is almost as good as Magny-Cours, and the brakes will not be used often, but they'll be under extreme stress as the places where its required are hard braking points (Turns 9 and 12 are very good examples.)

It's a great and fun track to drive, the drivers will certainly enjoy it. Sodding lucky bastards! ;P

Heh, IMO, one of the worst tracks of the season. Track just don't have any character at all. Really good that they pushed this race towards the start of the year so we can get it over with quickly. Still, hopefully, another Kimi win please.

The track has the most character of all Tilkes track TBH. The rest is even worse.

Still, hopefully, a Hamilton win please. ;)

(But I fear the worst...)

(But I would love to see Jense or Alonso on the top...)

I think Massa or Barrichello will win, with Piquet crashing into multiple people before retiring.

I'm with you on that one! Hopefully he'll crash into Alonso!

I find this unlikely, the Honda has improved but it's still a poor car.

Would be good to see a mclaren on the top step but I expect a ferrari front row and podium.

I disagree, both Bahrein and Sepang are much better tracks. I always like the races at those circuits, while Turkey tends to be a snooze fest.

I think he was taking the piss out of our resident idiot. ;-)

If this does turn out to be Ruben's last race, then I hope everyone else crashes frankly. He's given so much to the sport since his talent fully exploded onto the scene at Donington in 1993. Somewhat ironically, the drive that Senna is perhaps most remembered by, he was upstaged by his little rookie compatriot in many people's eyes. 15 years and a month to the day on Sunday, it had better not be last.

I might agree about Sepang but Bahrain? ffs... the worst.track.ever.

Turkey is great, its just that you cant understand how much skill is needed for Turn 8.

And these jokes just made me laugh. I'll let the race results answer them...

Turkey is a fantastic track. The first race in 06 saw a fantastic battle with MS and Alonso. Im expecting a top race this year. I think having it earlier means teams are developing cars more than end of season, so there might be a bit of unpredictability... except for the Ferrari 1-2!

will be a Kimi vs Felipe..if Kimi will make a good/decent lap on quali he will win but if not then Felipe will take the victory.Hopefully this time McLaren will use less fuel on Heikki's car so he can actually take the pole that he should have taken one or two times (melbourne,Barcelona) this season already.

Well, doesn't need that much skill really...the V8s made it a lot easier than when we had V10s. Still, it's not what makes the track boring...after watching a few races there, I still have no memory of the layout, apart from the first corner and turn 8. It really is just a bunch of corners thrown together. And the battle between Alonso and Schumacher was not on the first Turkey GP...that was in 2005, while the particular fight was in 2006. Even Fuji that is kinda crap is easier to remember than Turkey.

And Bahrein is much better, when you consider that it at least provides us with good overtaking moves with the current cars. Plus it reminds me of A1-Ring, which is another track I like.

I don't really know about Rubinho in Donington, how did he do?

He was the one following the Williams and Senna's McLaren and only about 5-10 seconds down on them for half the race. He had bad luck (unlike Prost who was just presumptuous, time after time) as it started raining while he was exiting the pits on slicks. In 2nd place. He retired a few laps from the end.

What a training, you can really notice the TC ban.

Hamilton, Massa, Sutil (few times), Nakajima, Fisichella, Trulli... all of them spinning
