..it's about time too, lol. Finally they're getting into action and bringing the place upto date.

The bit that interests me most is that even though the track isn't going to change, they plan to move the start line from before copse, to before the abbey chicane. Whaddya think about this? :)

I just hope that the people that move into the houses dont start making a fuss over the noise, like they do at every other circuit in the country!!

Wow that means the start will be nearer to where it was originally in 1948 - 1952! Excellent. Who says nostalgia is dead in F1 :)

But yeah should be good, will be confusing at first i think lol.. will miss the camera at copse though, the one where it shows the car driving towards you before quicklly turning left (to us) especially when its hot and theres heat haze.

Now that I think about it, I think that the start/finish straight would be better before Abbey, but I'll miss it from when it was before Copse, especially the camera that Chet mentioned :(

@chet: That camera's still likely to be there. That's a great shot to have. About the pits relocating: assuming they're gonna be on the inside of the track, it *should* be OK. I just hope that they can build them in time for 2009 is all... we could use the extra grandstand space on the inside of the track! Just a few thousand seats here and there, where it doesn't interfere with the runways.

It would also be nice to make Abbey a sweeping left hander like it used to be and then tighten up Priory a bit, making Bridge extremely daunting and making Priory a possible passing place.

Oh yeah, and sorting out the mickey mouse section between Stowe and Club. The entry to Stowe is awesome, as is the exit of Club, but the bit in between is a bit off. :)

Seems like we're changing a lot of the track though lol.

That's a good idea IMO. The start at silverstone is complicated because you have so little space before the first corner and copse is kinda tight for that. Moving it to before abbey would be good.

it wont happen they've been promising various new stuff since 2003 knocking over a wall doesn't change anything.

according to autosport this new pit wall has nothing to do with the other 'master plan' which involves possibly moving the start/finish...

The BRDC are so full of @#$%&! Every year Bernie (quite rightly) says "Hmmm Its loking a little shabby lads" And every year they (BRDC) say "Well its not as bad as Brazil or Imola! So GFY Bernie!" So Bernie sighs and says "Thats not the point! The UK has 8 teams so why not make Silverstone one of the best for facilities. The Drivers like the place, the fans like the place"

And the BRDC say "Its not our fault, its someone elses fault. We just own and run the place, how is our fault we dont invest in the place. We need to keep the money for ourselves, and we're British dontchaknow we invented everything how dare you have a go at us"

I really really want Bernie to say "Ok, FY then. No GP until you renovate!"

Silverstone will ALWAYS be a liability/disgrace. It will never change unless Bernie buys them out and makes it into Paul Ricard 2 But even when he suggested that, the BRDC dug their heels in. Bernies no mug. He would of made Silverstone financially sound and if anything attracted other business to the site. The BRDC are a prime example of the Old boys network. I hate them! As above, rebuilding a crumbling Pit wall is like a small plaster on a Volcano. Pointless and ultimately a waste of time!

p.s I am English BTW!

totally agree with you Nemesis.

the BRDC also like to roll out the "Government is funding the Olympics, so they should fund the GP!" line all too often also.

although i have no interest in the Olympics, it is seen as a truly global event that happens only every 4 years, and is regenerating a whole area of London for future projects and future use. Silverstone is run by a private club of members, so it's up to them, and them alone, to finance and run it.

FINALLY. Brits who agree with me. I am sick and tired of the British playing the victim card and saying Bernie is out to get them. Silverstone is a disgrace to British motorsport. That facility is what we offer to the world of international motorsport.

And this pit wall must be some sort of joke. The pit wall was the least of the issues, and if the full renovation does go ahead then the main pit striaght may well be moved, making this an expensive, but pointless project.

BRDC management need a reality check, even if it means losing the British GP for a season or two.

I agree also, even though I'm not english, but fact is, brazillian motorsport suffers from the same problems Silverstone faces. Interlagos had the asphalt redone, but the pits and the grandstands are still crappy compared to other facilities in the world, and some of the things being done are just disgraceful. A week after the F1 races, there was a crash in another competition that spilled oil on the asphalt. The boneheads threw cement dust in the asphalt which cause erosion due to the way the asphalt is done, so now a few areas of the circuit have been compromised due to that. It's disgusting.

And I have to say, I don't understand all the hate towards Bernie and Mosley. Sure they are off in a lot of ways, but they do hold the sport together somewhat. I think if Bernie were to buy silverstone, it would be a very good idea.

yes, while bernie and max certainly aren't perfect they do seem to get blamed for everything...
