Just wondering if anyone had a list of all the different qualifying systems used in F1 throughout history. Was there a lap limit back in the days of Pre-Qualifying and before then? And was the 2 qualifying session system only used in 1994?

I don't remember the year it changed, but before pre-qualification, there wasn't even a qualifying session. Just 2 2 hour practice sessions, from which the fastest times from which went to the grid, much like the 2x qualifying sessions which replaced it. That's why some older commentators still refer to qualifying sessions as 'in practice' on race day.

I like the system that was in until 2002: All vs. all. The current qualy system is ok, but it´s more funny see all cars running 1 hour, not 22 cars 15 minutes, later 16 the next 15 minutes, and later 10 cars...I don´t like this system very much because in the last qualy round the drivers are running slow about 10-15 minutes. I need more action

So you call half an hour of nothing, then a backmarker or two going on track, then ten mins nothing and then 20 minutes of everybody driving more action than one hour of cars actually driving?

to be honest, i preferred the old system too. the current Q3 "fuel-burn" process is just stupid.

i didn't mind half an hour of nothing, because we got a very exciting last few minutes where anything could happen. a driver would post the fastest time, then someone would come along and beat it, then someone else might come along and beat that, and we never knew who got pole until about 1 minute after the end of the session.

plus we knew they were all running on fumes, so there was no fuel-load to worry about. someone who got pole did it the genuine way, they went the fastest with little fuel. today, someone who gets pole might only have got it because he was lighter than the 2nd placed man.

even with the current format, some people might not watch Q1 and Q2, and may only tune in for the last 4 or 5 minutes of Q3 because that is the actual important part for who will get pole.

it's better than the 1-lap format we had a couple of years ago, but not as good as the plain and simple 12-laps-1-hour-low-fuel format.
