"Ferrari’s Felipe Massa will add another trophy to his growing collection, after winning this year’s prestigious Lorenzo Bandini award. Massa will receive the prize, awarded annually to an outstanding Formula One driver, at an event in Italy on May 6.

The trophy, named in honour of Italian racer Lorenzo Bandini, who died after crashing in the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix, will be handed to the Brazilian driver in the Italian town of Brisighella, Bandini’s home town. Previous recipients include Mark Webber, who won the award last year, Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso.

Massa enjoyed an impressive 2006 season, finishing third in the championship standings. He scored a maiden win in the Turkish Grand Prix, after starting from pole and ended the season on a high after winning his home race in Brazil." - F1.com

Well, that's all good and well, but who the hell gave Mark Webber an award for being an "outstanding Formula One Driver"??

So what do you exactly propose?

Take it away from him or something?

I think it's nice that apart from the usual subjects that most people gush about other drivers are recognised.

Felipe Massa will receive this year’s Lorenzo Bandini Trophy in recognition of his impressive performances for Ferrari last season.

The award, instituted in 1992 in honour of the Italian Formula 1 driver who died after a fiery accident in the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix, recognises drivers who have shown exceptional fighting spirit.

It is traditionally presented in Bandini’s hometown of Brisighella, near Imola, by his widow Margherita.

But since the San Marino GP is not part of this year’s F1 calendar, the ceremony will take place on May 6, the Sunday before the Spanish GP.

Previous winners of the award include Michael Schumacher, Jenson Button, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber.

Button won it after his debut season with Williams in 2000
