Looks like soft tyres will have red sidewalls like in Champcar, and drivers must run both soft and hard tyres during the race. I don't like the sound of this :(

It can't be any worse than having two tyre companies - for many of the last few years, a race weekend has been dictated entirely by tyres.

This might be something tactical that would enhance racing - we shall see

Due to the voting system in Germany, Governments are always made up of coalitions of different parties. At the last election, an almost unprecidented result saw the CDU/CSU (rough equivilant of the Conservatives) go into Government with the SPD (rough equivilant of Labour)

On principle I don't like it, but it does add another element of strategy to the race, and it really isn't that big of an issue in the ChampCar races I've watched....

Problem is ITV will spend about 400 hours of their coverage continuously boring us with how this rule works.

yet again they do this when most teams have designed there cars no one will probably be able to use the tyres properly. The best bet would be to use them at the start of the race build a gap or for some top drivers starting near the back they might be able to make some places.

Problem is you would not want a heavy fuel load on them or its a bit of a waste.

I always find that a good way to start the season :) When I'm struggling to stay awake and the endless droning about stuff I know...a real challenge. Who's hardcore-fan enough to stay awake?

I like it in principle because it's going to be an overtaking aid. :) Struggling to pass someone? Give yourself a bit more grip!

This rule hasnt just been made up, it would have been published with the 2007 regs halfway through last year.

Yeah and it's not as if they've just suddenly decided to use totally different tyres, infact there's no change to the tyres bridgestone were going to use, just that one has red sidewalls. This could prove to be very interesting for strategy decisions, even more so than in Champ Car because F1 doesn't have the silly pit window rule.

Read about it in F1racing a while back.

I personally like the sound of it.

because it will be the team/driver who can adapt the car during the race the best who will win.

Also it will spot weakness's in cars, like some may be good on soft but shite on hard, whereas others may be just as fast on both...

What exactly is the purpose of the rule though?

Yeah I read this too. Didn't the F1 Racing article say that the Champcars had to use these tyres at least once a race? I wonder if F1 will do that? Force teams to use it?

Chet, didn't the F1 Racing article say the red walled tires had more grip so the cars could go a fair bit faster but only for a few laps?
