how many layout changes did it go through?

on sims ive driven a few different versions i think.

Depends what you mean by changes...major corner changes I'm guessing very few, but resurfacing, curbs, slight layout adjustments, runoffs etc have probably been changed a lot.

If I'm not wrong (long time passed and memory don't helps a lot...) I remember to have read an interview to James Hunt in 1976 where he was complaining about some track modifications that made the track looking like the Paul Ricard... but I don't think that Niki Lauda could agree about that...

Only real change was the demolition of the start finish area, along with the Sudcurve, to make way for the current GP track, which can be included with the 'Schleife for races, such as the 24hrs.

Other than that, they've planed various bits off, added and changed kerbs and run-offs, tightened the Nordcurve slightly, erected armco barriers... and that's about it as far as I know.
