Squadra Toro Rosso - Minardi's 2006 team name

Squadra Toro Rosso

The new Red Bull-owned Minardi team is to be renamed Squadra Toro Rosso. The team, which will be run by former BMW Motorsport man Franz Tost, will be renamed after the takeover of Minardi is completed on November 1.

It is not clear who will be driving for the team but one seat is expected to go to American Scott Speed and all the signs are that the team will try to push Tonio Liuzzi into the team, allowing Christian Klien to stay with Red Bull Racing, alongside David Coulthard. This is likely to upset some of the staff at Red Bull Racing, who believe that Liuzzi has a great deal more ability than Klien. The Austrian media however has been campaigning hard for Klien and Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz has thus far been happy to calm the waters by giving way. This year the plan was originally for Klien and Liuzzi to share the second Red Bull but in the end Klien has had 15 races and Liuzzi four, which is hardly a fair arrrangement.

This has obviously not be easy for Liuzzi and it will be interesting to see whether or not he stays with the team if he is faced with a future at Minardi. The Italian is believed to be on Dr Mario Theissen's shopping list and Liuzzi might decide that it is better to race with a team which appreciates him more.

Interesting to see if he does decide to walk out on them, after all they have done for him, to get him in to F1.

Ummmm...ok...I'll bite...what does Squadra Toro "Minardi" Rosso mean?

Is that someone's name, like Minardi was named after Gianmaria Minardi?

Be honest though. Do you still call RBR Jaguar or Stewart?
Maybe you still callRenault, Benetton or even Toleman?

'RedBull' and 'Renault' don't take a long time to say, 'Squadra Toro Rosso' does.

why say 3 words when you can say just 1?

I still call Renault Benetton at times not quite sure why but i do :P And I refuse to accept Midland as anything other than Jordan

Midland arent a runner yet.

I reckon as long as the cars arent Yellow you'll soon forget. Thats why you still say Benetton. As they are still Blue.

They'll end up being called the Toro Rosso obviously the Squadra will be dropped from common parlance

Unless they drop the Toro Rosso and just call it the Squadra (and eventually the Squad). Hmmm, i really don't know.

@Muks_C....I had a guess at the guy's name...

Thought it was Gianmaria Minardi instead of Giancarlo Minardi...its what happens when you can't be stuffed doing research. :P

I reckon the commentators (Brundle & Allen) will call it 'the old minardi' during the first half of next season, just in case new viewers don't know the whole story.

either that or Allen will explain every time one of their cars is shown on tv, that Red Bull bought Minardi.

it might be the same with Sauber/BMW. "and here's Heidfeld in the BMW, which is the old Sauber team".

It'll probably be shortened to 'Rosso' next year, colloquially.

I assume Italians already call Red Bull Toro Rosso, so how will they differentiate between the teams next year?!

I personally assume that the Italians call Red Bull Red Bull, so there's no problem there.
