Paul Stoddard said in an interview that the new 2005 car - which will be inaugurated in Ímola - will be very competitive and will present surprising new ideas to the car, especially relating to the aerodynamics.

This article should be online in English in the next few days, but so far you can practice your Portuguese here: [esporte.uol.com.br]

I was surprised he said this, especially after all his whining! :-o

I wish him and his team all the best for 2005, but this sounds as if tries to get sponsors on board.

If he is releasing his new car after the Melbourne GP then he must be confident of pushing up in the grid to get closer to Jordan.

Hope he got some more sponsors into the car as well.

I'm a fan of Minardi, but I really dislike the fact that Paul Stoddart has already succumbed to commercialism, and will take ANY opportunity it takes to fill the car up with sponsors. The base design is nice, but when you add in all those sponsors, it just destroys the car, especially with those GoldenPalace.com logos. Why that crazy Aussie is even associating a team like Minardi with an online casino is beyond me.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. If it wasn't for all those little sponsors, Minardi would probably not be on the grid next year.

I think the livery of the car is the least of Stoddarts worries. He's doing a good job if he gets loads of sponsors all over the car.

It'd be nice if they moved up the grid abit, they deserve it for all the time they've hung in there.

I wish Paul Stoddart & Minardi the best of luck in 2005.
If by Imola they have a competitive car so full of sponsers you cannot see the paint good on him for getting them.

Considering that 2005 Regs call for less down force and low grip Minardi should do well as they have been using this formula for years.

they could keep their 2004 spec 2-element rear wing and might just about be competitive with the 1-element cars in the rest of the field!

lets hope Cosworth produce an engine worth having this year. Otherwise they'll be as stuffed as ever, which would be a great shame.

Perhaps a little better car, but needs a fine driver because on the contrary never will be competitive.
The last year Minardi was "competitive" was in 2000 with the yellow Telefonica Minardi and only Gene was able to fight other drivers in some races (Mazzacane wasn't).
So, competitive Minardi is difficult to belive.

1989 they were quite good, 1990 was a bit of a let down but things got better in 1991 then in 1993 they had a good start.

Competitive Minardi:

Seriously though, I hope they can be better than they have been for the last 4 or 5 years.
