The small Minardi team is on the verge of having new owners. At the moment, Paul Stoddart and Bernie Ecclestone are the main stockholders in the team but a group of businessmen from Northern Italy are looking to purchase the shares of Bernie Ecclestone and probably those of Paul Stoddart as well.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the deal is almost concluded, which might explain why Giancarlo Minardi wasn't at Indianapolis. The founder of the small Italian team may have stayed in Italy to discuss some final details of the transaction.

Still according to Gazzetta dello Sport - who have good sources in the F1 world - Minardi and Toyota are supposedly in negotiations for an engine supply deal for 2004. We should learn more about all this in a few weeks...

But he's good for the sport, just like EJ. He's quite happy to help the fans get more out of the sport. He does whine, but if F1 isn't being fair to him, then he's just right to complain. And fair play to the man for sticking at it, too!

Get rid of Stoddart

He has it in his head that F1 owes him cash. Perhaps if they earned the cash and didnt produce this years car like they did then they wud get it

your entitield to what you earn, and this years minardi is BAD.

F1 is not a charity, its a sport

Erm, excuse me, but this years Minardi is bad because they don't have all the crap that the other teams have, and by your logic, I might add, have earned. This, you have what your have deserved leads to some stupid conclusions. For instance, since Toyota have the biggest outfit, they must really have a lot of results in F1 to boast about, since they have "earned" so much.

I saw an interview with Kiesa, were he explained (downforce of the minardi vs. arrows car) that their car had never even seen a windtunnel. They just have a designer that looks at the other car of the teams and spends some months sketching a overall design. There is about 90% chance that they get it pretty right. However, they don't know before the car hits the track, where they can begin to correct errors. And this year, that happenend on Avon F3000 tyres, because Bridgestone didn't "feel" like living up to the obligations that have according to the concorde agreement. Fat chance they had of making that car a rock and a roller before the season commenced...

At Monza, eight of the 20 competing drivers either started their F1 careers at Minardi or currently drive for Minardi. This team actively builds this sport, to the benefit of us, the viewers and certainly the drivers and other teams. Perhaps not they do not shroud F1 in legend like Ferrari, but Minardi certainly do a hell of a lot more for F1 than most other teams do.

You have whta you earn... Yeah right!

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.

I completely agree with Morbid. It is far easier to do like Toyota or Renault with the money they have and with the structure they took (Benetton for instance).
This year a lot of drivers came from Minardi
Trulli
Alonso
Fisichella
Weber
Wilson
Gene
You can't expect McLaren, Ferrari or Williams to do the same and that's a shame.
Furthermore, I don't want to see races with only 14 cars or 6 teams.
