I thought the Argentines were better losers. What they did after the game was a disgrace.

What actually happened? Nobody is quite sure. You can't make statements like that without knowing what the germans did themselves.

Final score

Germany 1 - 1 Argentina (1 - 1 a.e.t)

Penalties
Germany 4 - 2 Argentina

Germany will play either Italy or Ukraine in the semi-finals.

Daniel, please. Argentinians ran up to the Germans because they disliked the celebration of the 4th goal and Heinze was leading up the charge and Maxi Rodríguez jumped and tried to punch someone but was held up by Franco. Similar stuff happens way too often and as much as I was hoping for Brasil x Argentina in the final, I am glad the team that played LESS dirty won.

I think Daniel is correct. We can't fully judged what happened there just based upon the footage that was provided. Therefore we could miss out on some critical assumptions: for instance, was there something else beside the 4th goal celebration that triggered the Argentian reaction? Perhaps Bierhoff (or any other German), who seemed to be one of the 'victims', harrassed the Argentinians in some way or another?

I'm not saying it was ok what they did, because, as Vader said, their behaviour was unacceptable. One should however, in my opinion, abstain himself from judging these things without observing the complete picture.

Oh, come on. Now you are making excuses. Even if someone from the German team said something offending (what I highly doubt) this wouldn't be a reason for punching other people. In a civilised world there is no excuse for physical violence at all. No bad word could possibly jusitfy what happened there. Argentina played well for the first half and end of the second extra time - in betwen there was not much to see from them. In the end they just acted like bad losers and disappointment let them make things they would probably normally never do.

Whatever happened, this World Cup is getting really annoying... I was so hoping that Argentina finally puts an end to this "We are Germany" feeling you get confronted with every day here now. The team is such a bunch of @#$%&... Please, England, beat Portugal, then them f***ing newspapers at least have ONE thing to cry about...

YES!!! YYYYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!! :):):):):)

Not only was my prediction (of a draw in normal time, no goals in extra time, and Germany win on penalties) fantastically accurate, but the favourites are out! At last we have a result in the World Cup which doesn't blindly follow the form book. :)

I understand you. Right now on my way through town I met dozens of flag waving morons and all I wanted to say to them was "drop dead and go to hell". I am not really a big footy fan anyway and I wish it was all over so that you could live a normal live again and don't have to buy cucmbers with FIFA logos on the wrapping. I have no problem with "our" team losing (well, it's not my team, I didn't contribute to it) but if they lose it should be well deserved. Today they did not deserve to lose.

In case you didn't know - before the game Argentina's star Carlos Tevez said that if there was a penalty:

"I will aim for goalkeeper Jens Lehmann's head. It either falls off or the ball goes in".

Even if this might have been said in the heat of the moment it pretty well shows where the aggression was coming from. Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of Argentinian football, but things like this simply come uncalled for.

I don't think Argentina deserved to lose. They were playing much better and could have won, hadn't the referee not given that penalty for them.

Damn! I did want Argentina to take the Cup, preferrably from Brazil - and yes, I am brazilian. ;)

I have to agree on the fact that it unacceptable. And I don't want to make excuses for it. Since I read about it in the newspapers this morning I have to agree with you and Guimengo here.
