Well, less than 2 hours to go and I cannot wait! Of course I am a bit skeptic but am hoping for a good show, and also for a clean match. I hope Ronaldo shows everyone he´s just fine and that Kaká flourishes in this World Cup :D.

Your opinions!

I'm really looking forward to seeing the new-look Brazil squad. Last World Cup in 2002 I felt it really was a final farewell to international football for a lot of the established Brazilian stars. Now this time we've got a team bursting full of new Brazilian stars, and I haven't ever seen any of them play (except Ronaldinho). So I'm hoping I'll be shocked and in awe. :) Though at the same time hoping they get knocked out by Italy or Spain, before they would meet England... I'm optimistic...

Ronaldo looks like JPM's twin. In fact he is every bit as fat as Gui is ugly.

kaka is a bloody cheat and so is adriano. At least they aren't playing captain cheatface mr rivaldo doesn't even play for them anymore. I don't think you can really call the other teams "weak" and "lesser" gui, that is really stuck up, as you have been doing about t&t and such. Stop being so arrogant. Brazil are good, but they are too poncey and stuck up about it and cheat to win when they don't even need to. I don't like show offs either. And I don't like your view of "superiority" concerning both your regard for your own "football knowledge" and the view of your team too.

fat and all, he's an awesome player, i have no doubt he will break Gerd Muller's 14 goals record.

there's nothing to do about Gui's ugliness though ;)

Well, In his official farewell match you couldn't see a difference between Maradonna and the ball either, yet he still had a bit of the magic in him. Maybe Ronaldo should take more cocaine. :p

I'd be surprised if Ronaldo scored any goal - in fact I'd be surprised if Brazil should reach the second round. :p

Ronaldo is waddling... he's done absolutely nothing.

Brazil on a whole is frankly very underwhelming... on this performance, I doubt the rest of the teams will be overly worried. Their reputation is certainly preceeding them. Still, they have the players - we know they can perform much better. As things stand (50min in) Argentina were much more impressive, and so were England at this point I guess (but then collapsed and went totally negative).

They should still win the tournament, but they're very beatable - Croatia are well on top at the moment.

Croatia were well unlucky :( All their shots seemed to go at the keeper.

That was pathetic.

What the hell was Ronaldo doing!? Although he wasn't the only one - Ronaldinho was making mistakes, Adriano was anonymous, Emerson was clumsy, Ze Roberto's through-balls were appalling... the whole operation just looked shoddy. And it was a crap game of football.

Tell you what though, the press have been on England's back about their performance - but so far only Czech Republic and Italy of the 'grandee teams' have played better!

I know they're statistically the 2nd best team in the world, but I wouldn't call the Czech Republiv a "grande team". They've got a shot if everything goes to plan, but it'll be on a similar scale to Greece winning Euro 2004 IMO. I just can't see them putting in performance after performance all the way to the final. I hope I'm wrong though, as I've got them in the sweepstakes at work ;)

I still reckon Argentina have looked the best so far, but that Brazil are still favourites. They'll be having a post-mortem in Brazil though... that was a really poor performance. They'll give the excuse that it was "enough", same as England, but they should have played better... at least England looked unlikely to concede...

but Croatia >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Paraguay ;)

Mark Egan's prediction in our MSN convo was more accurate than mine he said they would scrape a win despite him r00ting for Croatia while i predicted an onslaught :P but yup their reputation preceded them. But the goal was sheer brilliance from nothing!

Worst game after France vs. Switzerland earlier.

Brazil didn´t play well, the only upside is Juan and Lúcio, and Dida looking like the goalie he hasn´t been for Milan lately. Emerson has always been that dirty player and I get so upset each time he goes to tackle because more often than not he goes dirty. Ronaldo was horrible, I don´t know what´s happening and if the blisters are still hurting - which DOES mess you up a lot, no argument - but he should have tried more or just ask to be replaced if it was the case he was in pain. Ronaldinho didn´t do much, but he did have some nice plays.

And Daniel, I don´t see what you mean by cheat. Unless you say cheat when Kaká has his feet taken away or Adriano gets knocked on the ankle, and to anyone with any decency in football that is a foul, just you that got used to a messed up game. And some Croats are quite dirty, made me compare them to Australia and some African teams. (By dirty I don´t mean something that happens in just one play, I mean something consistent from players. Just making sure you have no room to misinterpret)

ps: I never said I was pretty ;)
pps: Ronaldo is a bit out of shape but he is very, very strong too. It´s not all just fat.

is the pressure of being raging hot favourites getting to them?

you'd think they'd be able to handle it

I don´t think they had those issues, they won but didn´t score more due to obvious reasons. Croatia is a much stronger team than other teams that the big names faced, we all knew they would be playing tough defense on the back and trying counter attacks. Lúcio and (especially) Juan did a good job at the back, and it´s Juan´s first WC despite me calling for him to be there in 2002.
