Following his violent smash during the second round of the American Le Mans Series at St. Petersburg, doctors have confirmed that Tomas Enge has suffered a shattered elbow, cracked ribs, a partially collapsed lung and possibly a broken ankle too.
The Czech driver was leading the GT2 class around the street circuit when he suffered a high-speed crash at turn three and being immediately hospitalised at Bayfront Medical Centre.
Although described as awake and stable, the extent of his injuries are concentrated on the left-hand side of his body due to the impact of his crash, while doctors have recommended that he be transferred to the Indianapolis Methodist Hospital for further treatment and surgery
While a recuperation time has not been stated, Enge is expected to be unlikely to compete in the American Le Mans Series for some time, as well as the FIA GT Championship and A1 Grand Prix he also has interests in.
