Tomas Enge is in a stable condition in Bayfront Medical Centre after a serious accident during the second round of the American Le Mans Series season on the streets of St. Petersburg.

The Czech driver went into the wall at turn four on the 87th lap of the race, with the #31 Ferrari 430GT catching fire following the collision. Despite that, Enge sustained no burns and was awake and alert while being rescued from the stricken car, although a release issued by the team stated that the driver had suffered ‘serious trauma'. Enge was due to undergo further tests overnight. The cause of the accident is under review but mechanical failure is not believed to be a factor.

Blatantly no one here cares, but......

UPDATE:

Following his violent smash during the second round of the American Le Mans Series at St. Petersburg, doctors have confirmed that Tomas Enge has suffered a shattered elbow, cracked ribs, a partially collapsed lung and possibly a broken ankle too.

The Czech driver was leading the GT2 class around the street circuit when he suffered a high-speed crash at turn three and being immediately hospitalised at Bayfront Medical Centre.

Although described as awake and stable, the extent of his injuries are concentrated on the left-hand side of his body due to the impact of his crash, while doctors have recommended that he be transferred to the Indianapolis Methodist Hospital for further treatment and surgery

While a recuperation time has not been stated, Enge is expected to be unlikely to compete in the American Le Mans Series for some time, as well as the FIA GT Championship and A1 Grand Prix he also has interests in.

Not sure if pulling him out of the car like that did him any good but it was on fire. Hope he makes a speedy recovery.

yea thats Leigh Diffy, hes one of the best commentators around IMO. Ive got a few WSB dvds with him on n he describes the races brilliantly n makes em even more exciting.

But back on topic I hope that Thomas can make a very quick and full recovery :)
