:o

It's incredible that he didn't get seriously injured, from the description.

Did the top of the car come off? From the photos, it looks like it did. SO lucky...

Hes not. Takashi Yokoyama hit a bridge in 1997 at Fuji. He was killed.

Look at the 3rd picture just how far away the car is from the bridge, sounds and looks huge.

Was he the one who flew and made four or five flips and landed into the fence and almost hit a camera man?

That was Hirokazu Nagaya at Suzuka in the Japanese Formula Dream Series. Video here:

Takashi Yokoyamas accident, there is a video of, but nobody can find it. It was shown a few times just after his death, but never again. It probably doesnt exsist anymore. His accident was off the start line, he hit the back of another car which launched him into the air to an unbelivable height. The car hit the bridge and exploded. He fell to the track with the rest of the debris (the chassis was long destroyed). Theres photos, but tbh i dont really feel like putting them online. It isnt nice.

:( Do you mean his body fell onto the circuit...?

Yeah. The chassis was destroyed on impact with the bridge. It broke into countless peices. So unfortunatly his body was "loose" after the initial impact and fell to the ground like a ragdoll with the rest of the debris. IIRC even his helmet was broken by the fall.

Several people in the pit lane were injured by large parts of the car coming down on them (nobody was seriously hurt by the debris).

I know it sounds stupid, but hitting a bridge whilst airborn really isnt a nice thing. The one Yokoyama hit was exceptionally high (i think it was holding the start lights, not sure), but one Bruno hit is quite low compared. He should count himself lucky, a few inches higher he might have hit the vertical boards of the bridge rather than the bottom, and that almost certainly would have killed him.

f'in hell thats bad, i definetly dont need to see pictures of that.

One good thing is that safety in all levels of motorsport is so much better these days.

Yep. You could go on for ages about motorsport being better in various ways in the good ole days like some people do, but safety is one area where it wasn't better in those days. Ok, track designs are suffering in the pursuit of safety which is a bit fustrating, but the strength of the cars really is impressive even in lower formulas.

Bruno Senna finishes 3rd place @ Spa-Francorchamps F3

The brazilian racer Bruno Senna finished this friday (28) in third place at Spa Francorchamps, Belgium, for the round 11 of British F3. The dutchman Yelmer Buurman won the race after 32 laps and 31min22s800.

The teams found a lot of problems due to the troubled weather, and the drivers chose to start the race with wet tyres, and it gave to them an advantage over the drivers with dry tyres.

"I was flying at the end of the race, lapping 12 seconds faster than the leaders with dry tyres. With more one lap, I could have finished in second", says Bruno Senna.

Todays race was the first of the two that will happen @ spa. The last round will be tomorrow. "I'm confident, I believe that the team can do a good work and hopefully win the next race tomorrow", says the brazilian, who will start in second place.

Bruno Senna, nephew of Ayrton Senna, is currently the third overall, with 108 points. Mike Conway is still leading with 154 points.

ROUND 11 Classification after 32 laps:

1.º Yelmer Buurman (NED/Mercedes) - 31min22s800

2.º Maro Engel (GER/Mugen-Honda) + 0.472

3.º Bruno Senna (BRA/Mercedes) + 6s938

4.º Mike Conway (ENG/Mercedes) + 8s398

5.º Oliver Jarvis (ENG/Mugen-Honda) + 9s647

6.º James Walker (ENG/Mercedes) + 12s814

7.º Christian Bakkerud (DEN/Mugen-Honda) + 18s763

8.º James Jakes (ENG/Mercedes) + 22s031

9.º Jonathan Kennard (ENG/Mugen-Honda) + 27s301

10.º Karl Reindler (AUS/Mugen-Honda) + 34s939

15.º Mario Moraes (BRA/Mugen-Honda) + 1min06s274
