I am new and it seems that all of the cool stuff requires a patch higher than the base install of 1.00. How do I know what patch to use?

Thank you very much David....I can't wait to get it going. I just bought GP3 last week (I know a little behind, 23month old son, no time to play) and I am ready to get into it.
