The manual suggests you adjust front wing and rear wing at the same time for testing. I have been just putting the front wing at 1 and adjusting the rear wing for the fastest time around the track and then getting a front wing balance from that, is that a bad way to go about it?

Hi. I think that the best way is to test: make your adjustment and than feel the car. The balance between front and rear wings determinates understeer or oversteer, it depens from how you like your car (personally i preferr a oversteering car, but not for every circuit).
A bad way could be choosing a very low downforce setup in a street circuit or a too high downforce setup in a very fast one: anyway there's not a bad or a good way, it depens upon what you want from your setap (speed, downforce, grip...).
Hope this can help you.
Claudio.
