Computer required for GP3

Hi all,
I have a AMD 900, 32mb TNT, 256 ram, windows NT. at the moment gp3 runs poorly even on 600x? resolution with minimum detail. What kind of system do I need for gp3 to run in 800x600, full graphix with high frame rates? Can I just upgrade my video card?
cheers

yeah, better graphics card would be good. Stick of 256 RAM wouldn't hurt. I have an ever lesser quality processor than that (433 mhz!) but a 64 mb Geforce 2 MX, and 400ish ram, and GP3 works good.

I played GP3-2000 on Pentium II 400Mhz, 192mb RAM, 16 mb video & it worked good in 1024*768. I had 15-20 fps with this resolution.

oldman138,

My system is precisely the same as yours (exact same processor, exact same video card) except that I only have 128mb RAM and I run Windows 98 2nd Edition.

I play GP3 in 1024x768 resolution with mirrors and all of the graphics options at the maximum and only get a slight slowdown at the start of races which usually completely disappears after the first corner or two just as soon as the cars space out a bit. This is all at the either the maximum original GP3 framerate or even at 31.9 fps with Matti Laitinen's GP3 FramerateEditor.

Perhaps Windows NT is your culprit? I have heard of very many people having problems playing "older" (read - older than Windows NT) games on WinNT.

Yes, I agre. NT is definately not THE platform for games.

I've heard about similar problems with WinXP.
One certain thing, at least, is that WinXP doesn't support GP3 Hot Lap replays, yes?

I don't know...

I use the Win2000 and doesn't support GP3 Hot Lap replays aswell.

thanx for the replies, I am of the opinion NT is my problem as gp3 ran better under win98, however, short of resorting back to win98, is there any cheap component i can upgrade to fix the problem? eg ram or vid card?

Yes, WindowsNT graphics support is crap. Also AGP graphics is poor. I run GP3 and 4 on winxp and never have problems with hotlap replays. Your RAM should be ok. The TNT is not the best of cards and in performs really poorly under any WinNT kernel (ie. winnt, win2000, winxp) but runs well on win98. Geforce 4 MX's are really cheap to buy
www.cclcomputers.co.uk - 64MB XFX Geforce 4 MX 440SE - £40
or check out www.dabs.com.

I personally would upgrade the graphics but ram is also cheap aswell for 256MB and you would see improvements.

If u wana play games i suggest dropping NT totally and going for Win2000 or XP. you computer should be fine to play GP3 on, and even GP4 would run at decent detail in most circumstances.
