install help for multiplayer

It is finally raining in Alaska after record-breaking heat during the midnight sun. Now it time to reinstall the game for multi-player battles. What is the latest and greatest versions of the patches, carsets, and other goodies. I am running XP pro, and can run hardware mode. Any helpful directions appreciated.
