gp4 on windows 7 [fixed]

i have got some problem when i try to play whit gp4...i have try many times to reinstall but everytime i start the game i have a black screen and the game don't start..
i have installed in order:
gp4 whit my cd
gp4 patch
gp4 decripted exe
gpx patch

but the game dont't start normal and whit gpx patch...i have to do something?

Did you start it in windows xp compatibility mode?

yep, set compatibility mode to XP (whatever service pack)

is it 32 or 64 bit? I don't get these windows 7 issues... i just installed GP4 myself earlier on my 32bit 7 box, runs just fine without any compatibility modes or anything. could it be a driver issue? and did you try launching before installing the patch? (just launching straight off the CD as soon as it's installed?)

Try hitting the space bar at the black screen or hit enter to go to the main menu. Yes graphics problem probably.

he game doesn't start even whit a fresh new install...how can i set compatibility to windows xp?
about the graphic problem...the new pc is better then the latest...i dont' think it's a graphic problem...

go to the .exe file of gp4 or gpxpatch. right click the exe file and go to properties. then go to compability and set run this program in compabilty modus:
windows xp sp3.

i did a few tests with gp4, when running gp4 on windows 7 x64 the po goes through the roof, even when creative alchemy is enabled, i tried windows 7 x32 and the po drops quite a lot but still very high,re tried it on xp x32 and the po drops right down to 50% at the start of the race then dropping as low as 15% when the cars start to spread out, i did all the tests on max graphics on 1440x900 res 60 fps. With windows 7 x64 to try and keep the po down i had to drop the fps as low as 25 but still kept getting po spikes every few seconds, my opinion is xp runs gp4 absolutely perfect and i have no idea how to get it to run as smooth in windows 7

I have Win 7 x 32bit and a vanilla installation of GP4. That is, off the cd, no mods or changes except the official patch. PO at race start is 25. res is 1280 x 1024 and fps is set to 35. I also have it installed on another comp with XP SP3 and running hi res CSM mods and it runs fine, I could not tell you what the PO is at race start but it certainly isn't laggy. Both comps have 4gb of ram available.

I have win7 64bit if I don't play gp4 in xp compability mode po will get strange peaks from 50 to 150% but with compability mode set po stays under 100%.

even with compatability mode i get huge po spikes with windows 7 x64 6gb ram. Im now running xp x32 4gb ram and po is as low as 15% in some places, all max graphics, hi res tracks and 60 fps, i think lack of hardware accelleration in windows 7 is the main culprit for po spikes

I didn't have a problem with gp4, but then I downloaded the wads from Nick and suddenly I also had that peak at my pc with windows 7 64 bit

just found a little program called cff explorer that allows you to edit any exe,you can assign any exe more than 2gb ram, this works great for older stuff ie gp4 that uses less than 1gb, ive tried it and instantly the po spikes have stopped, i would recommend giving this a go if you dont already know about it
