Hi,
Am using GP4 Tweaker Ver. 1.0.4.3 Beta 3, am really impressed with what has been done with it! However when I come to save my steering wheel position (as of T-cam, not in cockpit) individually - it doesn't save!? As long as I am in the game - it is fine, however, when I reload it reverts back to the originals! I am changing the settings in the game (live) and this is the first version I have installed.

I have read this forum and read the Tweaker readme file, but am stupid I think as I cannot make it go away.

I have read that it reverts to the default settings in objects.ini (in Gp4 directory), I have cleared these values but it still reverts. I now realise that it may have something to do with the gp4tweak.bin file - but cannot work out what this does!

Can anyone help - please.

Thanks
Steve

1) You need to enable steering-wheel in GP4Tweaker v1.042 (give a checkmark for steer option).
2) From gp4tweak.ini, enable steer-wheel tweak and the editing mode, like this:

SteerPos = 1
SteerPosEdit = 1

3) Delete all entries under EXTERNAL_STEER_POSITIONS section at objects.ini file.

4) Now you can use real-time editing and the values will be stored into BinFile. If still having problems, let me know. :)

Please help - am going mad.........................!

Thanks by reposting the log content.

21-09-2003 14:59 [*] Unable to Load BinFile. Revert To Default Data [pHSAPOS::LoadBinFile]

This was that causing your problem. Helmet/Steer/Arms routine handler unable to retrive data from BinFile. It might seem your BinFile (gp4tweak.bin) corrupted.

To fix this problem, rename (or delete, as you wish) gp4tweak.bin file in your GP4 directory. If you think this is not enough, run GP4 Tweaker 1.042 to re-creating fully structured gp4tweak.bin file. Send me a report if you still got the same problem. Good luck.

Thanks Madman,
Have done this - however it still doesn't work! Can you suggest anything further? Have included the new bin file after I deleted the old one.

Thanks
Steve.

I get this problem too.

I'm using 1.0.4.2.

I'd given up trying to solve the problem, but now that I see others are having this problem, I thought I may as well add that they aren't the only ones.

Great program btw, thanks :)

Hmm...
It seem that gp4 tweaker unable to access (either reads or writes from/to gp4tweak.bin file).

Try this one:
1) Do not run GP4 from "Launch GP4" button in GP4 Tweaker program. Instead, click from desktop icon or run from GPxPatch.
2) If you use WinXP or Win2k, be sure this file (gp4tweak.bin) are not shareable (from network connections), and has full access priviledges (which mean a system module .dll can gain full file access and you didn't login as guest account).

1) I always run GP4 from the GPxPatch, and haven't even tried testing the helmet positions without GPxPatch running (which could have been a mistake I guess)

2) I use WinXP Pro, but I'm not on a network, and don't have any shared folders or files. I log in as the sole user, and have full admin rights.

Just to add to that, the gp4tweak.bin file is being modified according to the time stamp, it's just that GP4 isn't seeing that portion of the data.

[*] Unable To Open BinFile Data File [pBINMGR::OpenFile]

This one which indicating GP4 tweaker unable to locate or retrieve data from gp4tweak.bin file. Symbols used in the log file means:

[ ] = normal/informational text
[!] = warning
[*] = error

GP4 Tweaker uses these following procedures while trying to open gp4tweak.bin file:
1) Open the file (gp4tweak.bin) located at GP4 main directory using CreateFile() WinAPI function.
2) Check whenever the file was zero size. If so, proper header (16 bytes size) will be appended at the beginning of the file, send error upon failure, otherwise...
3) Header ID will be checked and must be valid, send error upon failure.

Possible problems (assuming you have valid gp4tweak.bin file and existing in GP4 main directory):
1) Some background programs has been trying to change current directory for GP4 process (which actually must be pointed to GP4 main directory), such programs like anti-virus software or even virus.
2) WinXP/Win2k has been set to with very high file security priviledges(usually under NTFS file system). Please note, gp4tweak.bin was accessed from a module (gp4tweak.dll) and .bin extension was classified as system file. Under this circumstance, OS usually ignoring file access and return error.

Solutions:
1) For point no. 1, try run GP4 directly through desktop icon or similar ways. I'll try to work around this issue on next version of GP4 Tweaker to keep the GP4 main directory before "stolen" by other background apps.
2) For point no 2, I just recommend this for anyone that familiar with NT security policy templates. For Win2k, use system policy to adjust NTFS priviledges for system file access (.exe, .com, .sys, .bin, .dll, .drv, etc). In WinXP, this might be done from Admin control panel. I'll fix this issue by using proper security attributes (instead generic access as for Win9x system) to access gp4tweak.bin file under NT-based OS.
