Hi all,

When selecting a lower difficulty than ace, obviously the ai get slower.....but do they get less aggressive?

Thanks

I would think that the ai behaviour is hard coded and wouldn't change. Difficulty levels are more about your driving ability. I've never noticed that they are slower, but that's probably because I'm pretty crap myself. :-)

The AI will be slower in corners as well as on straights. This effect can also be seen in the cmagic:

Quote

500 ; ?? cc power factor ace
500 ; ?? cc grip factor ace
500 ; ?? cc power factor pro
495 ; ?? cc grip factor pro
487 ; ?? cc power factor semi-pro
476 ; ?? cc grip factor semi-pro
476 ; ?? cc power factor amateur
472 ; ?? cc grip factor amateur
469 ; ?? cc power factor rookie
469 ; ?? cc grip factor rookie

But as far as I know, cc-cars won't be less aggessive in a lower difficulty level.

On a similar note, is there a simple way to edit each difficulty on its own? Because I lap everyone on Pro, but always finish last on Ace. So I think just a 0.5% lowering of ACE would be perfect.

You need to open up the magic data file for the track in question. Then you look for this section below. Make the power factor and grip factor values less.....say lowering it by 0.5% as you say. Then you use cmagic to load the magic data back into the track file.

When you race the difficulty should be adjusted to your changes.

500 ; ?? cc power factor ace
500 ; ?? cc grip factor ace
500 ; ?? cc power factor pro
495 ; ?? cc grip factor pro
487 ; ?? cc power factor semi-pro
476 ; ?? cc grip factor semi-pro
476 ; ?? cc power factor amateur
472 ; ?? cc grip factor amateur
469 ; ?? cc power factor rookie
469 ; ?? cc grip factor rookie

Where is this cmagic file imbedded, please? I cannot see of find it. Also, with what does one open such a file?
Thanks

The magic file is in the track .dat file. Use cmagic to extract it from there.

I think it's under file at the top, extract it and you can simply open it in notepad. If the track .dat has no magic file data, you just need a track file data that does and use that file instead.

You can then edit it as above, and use cmagic again to load it back into the .dat file for that track.

Brilliant - Thanks!

Back to the OP, it seems pretty clear to me that there is a quite big difference in assertiveness between PRO and ACE, another reason why I would like to rather race on ACE, because they attack a little bit more.

By changing the values under Ace in the magic data file, this allows for slower ai pace, but still ace levels of aggression.

I am gonna give all the levels the same power factor(equal to whatever ACE is set at), and then just decrease ACE grip factor by 1 point, then the game will be perfect.

Can someone tell me when using different mods and seasons etc, if I load a track and magic data file, containing the same cc difficulty values....does this mean the level of difficulty will be consistent between mods?

I'm trying to find my competitive level against the ai, but ideally want to find it and not have to keep adjusting it depending on the mod I'm using. For example, be competitive in the 2014 mod but be way off the pace on the 2007 mod.

Thanks for any advice

I guess it depends on the car behaviour too. You might be good with cars that have low grip - like the 2014, but that advantage is lost on the 2007 cars, which had a lot of grip.
It also depends on the performance file, which is different for each mod - more AI skill=faster AI. Also car BHP might be another factor, which varies between mods. More BHP = more engine power. I dunno what effects this has on grip though.

So back on your question.. yep, afaik you have to change it for each mod, but probably increasing/decreasing the grip value by the same value for each track. Maybe someone else can find a solution?

On the subject of difficulty between seasons - and this ties in to what miki2000milos said about car behaviour - car setups will play a big part.

For example, I have a setup for driving a 2001 Minardi on Pro at the Hungaroring that is good enough for a win but if I try and drive a 2007 Ferrari with it I'm just so slow.

In terms of grip and handling, no problem, but the gear ratios were all out of whack.

Ok thanks guys. Looks like I need to find a difficulty for each mod.
Any tips on finding it quickly?

How much a 1 point change lowers laptime for example? To change power or grip first, or both?

Perhaps grip first, less AI power might mean less chance of an overtake. Grip changes also reduces overtaking opportunities, but still on each track there is a certain overtaking spot (apart from Monaco and Oran Park).
About the laptime change, I don't really know.
