The penalties are a bit harsh when we haven't had any on track action during this activity period!!!

I do not agree with that, the rules have been there for a long period of time. They should be well known by all who are involved in the league, and respected. It's everyone's own responsibility to uphold these rules which are democratically created by us all. Even when there is no real 'on track' action. There is enough around to make a comment about to state your activity.

Great news. Means we are almost ready to go racing.

Please don't comment on this, taking it back. See my next post, why.

Totally agree with this. Just would like to throw in the idea of making the system a bit more liberal. At the moment a perf penalty of 20 points for the first inactivity means quite a big drawback as 20 points in the tight GPGSL-field means quite a few places dropped performance-wise.
This being the first penalty seems a bit harsh for me. Rules should be standing as is (look at me, I see a activity check and directly post some generic message so I don't have to bother anymore) but maybe replace that first penalty with a warning or a 10 points-reduction. I think one time inactivity could happen. Of course the second penalty should have increased drawbacks, I'd say let the 2 races-demotion stand as is and up the perf-reduction to a total of 30 points.

In my experience the difference between 10 perf points and 20 is almost non-existence in practice.

The system works fine as it is in my opinion.

No it isn't. Places in the league are hard to come by, and it's a small effort to keep your bum in a seat. Any changes to the rules can be put forward at the end of the season. The activity rules were designed to prevent the league from running ghost drivers, and ultimately going the way of the WGP/W300 leagues.
Given that the GPGSL will next season celebrate its tenth series anniversary, which is also due to the fact there is a dedicated behind the scenes management team, who give freely of their valuable time, I'd say the rules are working.

The check window was expanded to 14 days in time for last season, so there's now a regular time when activity is collated (ie. every Sunday evening).

You can't possibly use the "there wasn't a race" excuse; there's plenty of things to say and do that'll get your activity checked off. If everyone failed the check, then perhaps the people who are against the current system would be right in voicing their discontent. However, since the people who missed the boat were in the minority then there's nothing to complain about; everyone else managed to follow the rules.

It's your own prerogative to post; if you want to have fun whilst doing well, it's advantageous to post a little bit of news or a short statement explaining your anticipation for the next round. The system rewards the people who contribute to discussions.

If you've got a valid excuse for the entire 14 days, then fine, not a problem. If it's something weak like "oh, my dog ate my router", sorry, that doesn't fly with me. Two weeks is a pretty long time, and if you're checking the site every couple of days just to see how things are bubbling away, then you should be fine.

As Mal and Maikel have said, the series has run perfectly well with the checks as they are since we're in our ninth season; if people find the rules unfair, then I think there's a false sense of entitlement since the rules apply to everyone.

Anyway, let's dwell on this no longer. If people are committed to the series they'll make the effort to stay active.

Apparently!
Don't think I've ever had an activity penalty

Given the last comments I take back my original proposal. If my idea doesn't work like I thought of (and I trust Jack fully here, you have way more experience regarding perf-files than I'll ever have), then it shouldn't remain in a discussion. Also this "Any changes to the rules can be put forward at the end of the season" (Mal) is a logical statement, so I won't hold you up with my idea anymore. If there's nothing that urgently needs a discussion I'll remember that sentence and post my ideas later in the season.

Just want to say that I won't take back everything I've said. The rules are quite strict, and while it is not difficulty at all to make one post within 14 days, I'd still say the first penalty may be too harsh (this feeling is rather marginal, still I would like to post it here). I kind of "fear" the perf-penalty although that may be a good thing.

In an ideal world, you wouldn't have to 'fear' the perf penalty, because everybody would either succeed in posting once in two weeks or have a valid reason for not doing so. And then the perf penalty wouldn't have to be established. But this isn't an ideal world and like everywhere in our society, a threat is needed to impose a rule, otherwise the rule runs dead. Only so much to that. If more people think that the this rule is too harsh, it can be gladly discussed again at the end of the season, for next season. But overall I have the feeling that the majority of people is happy with the rules as they are.

Rules are rules... and they are made for everyone in the league. If you can't put something on the board for some reason just say it...

for example: you're on holiday to Africa for two months and there is no WIFI in your wooden shed, so you can't post anything on the board from june 1st till august 1st, it will be noted by the activity checker and you will not get any penalty's.

So, it's all up to you young gentlemen drivers to avoid penalties.

One post during 14 days... no, it's not a big effort! And Marcus said: when people go to holiday, only post here "I won't be here during 3 weeks, 4 weeks, a month...". All GPGSL members understand this!! But, please, tell for all!!

Just live by my 3 GPGSL activity rules and and all will be fine:

1. If you go to the toilet for a dump, go to GPGSL forum and make sure you post in every activity window
2. If you have nothing to post about, post about Pizza
3. Pizza

People Poop on an average of 5-7 times in a week if you drink enough and if you eat enough pizza. This gives you about 10-14 times a week to post ;-)

I just received my second warning, but I still think the rule is good. Nobody wants to drive around with "ghosts". My problem is that I easily forget. Time really does fly in my life, and two weeks are a blink of an eye. I think i'll put up some kind of an reminder for myself.
