Mansell vs. Berger 1990

That is all.

I loved Mexico, but it's a bonkers track, good for bonkers drivers.

That is one of the very best laps in F1. Mansell's tyres were completely shot, Berger had just hunted him down and overtaken him, and he went and did that. Summed Mansell up perfectly.

Some of the very best commentary in F1 history too. Murray was almost speechless for a brief moment. :D

Murray produced some of the best F1 commentary pretty much when ever he opened his mouth, but especially if Mansell was upto to something or involved in a drama of some sort... Who can forget [youtu.be] ?

Well how about that, it seems that Mexico City is actually in the running to host a Grand Prix next year.

Awesome - Austria AND Mexico back! :D
India's out next year and New Jersey looks to have failed again (thank goodnes!) so that takes it to the acceptable limit of 20 ;)

Mexico is the historic track I could least give a @#$%& about.

I've just never thought "yeah, that place was awesome—come on Bernie, bring it back sharpish".

I liked the track, but I think they've got a mammoth task to bring it upto to spec in time.

Jeez, I hope they've shaved the bumps down - can you imagine the complaining?

If any of you watched the BBC's pre-race coverage you'll have seen just how run-down the track looks.

The last Mexican GP was before my time anyway, being the grand old age of 1 year old, so not one I have any really excitement seeing return.

I'm looking forward to Austria coming back though.

Whatever happened to the track on the Algarve in Portugal? That looks great but has never even been considered.

Portugal has no money at all, so I doubt Algarve will be happening in a near future. Besides the company who owns the track is seems to have some important economical problems. AFAIK they're virtually bankrupt.

That would actually be legendary if both those venues made a comeback in the same year. They're my two favourite classic F1 countries.
Also, from the Belgian GP buildup feature mentioned already, it looks like the original Mexico City layout is still intact - including the Peraltada. Let's hope it stays like that with no alterations. :D

Are you not thinking Estoril? The Algarve circuit is quite a bit newer, I think?

I actually quite like the Mexico city circuit, but IIRC the original Peraltada was demolished years ago to make way for a baseball stadium. I'm pretty sure the Champ Car races held there actually drove through it!

Edit: It's still there! [goo.gl]

Turns out the Champ Car race involved a couple of sharp chicanes into and out of the stadium - you can still see them on the map.

A unique backdrop! ;)
Defo needs a lot of bringing up to standard, though :P

Here's some footage:

If it happens, I don't think we'll be seeing full-speed entries into the Peraltada again - note the complete absence of run-off.

The Peraltada is completely flat now anyway—it's got none of the old banked character.

I can only imagine how quick the esses will be now. I dread how fast the old turn 1 would have been (you can see the entry to it carrying on on the map Senninho posted).

The Peraltada was flattened in time for 1992, and was still a bat insane corner.

I think the main problem is going to be run off though, as there is a whole load of other stuff pretty much up to the track boundaries now. The classic layout is way to fast for a street wall type solution.

Multi-layer tyre walls or SAFER barriers in front of the concrete walls, maybe?

Judging by the video in my post above, which I've only just realised was broken (;)), I'd say there is not even room for tyres. A SAFER barrier should fit, but I'm not actually sure if any current tracks use it.

With all this talk of F1 circuits of old we'd like to see return, what about Imola? History (both good & bad), fast corners etc. Not a classic GP (unless you count the Alonso-Schumacher battles) but a great circuit that has been updated recently

Personally, I love Imola, but I doubt we'll see it on the calendar again.
