I just read this, would be great to have this track back in the calendar, instead of a new tilkodrome somewhere in Asia.

Awesome.
With Red Bull being an Austrian team, their involvement in F1 now and them owning the track, it's obvious - I'd even say it's overdue. Everything fits.
This was always a great track which produced good racing. I've missed it a lot since it was dropped from the calendar.

From what I've read it is all but confirmed.

Still, back in 2003 those cars were doing a lap in 1 minute 8 seconds.

How fast do you think the 2013 machinery would be in comparison?

Pole position at Interlagos was 1:13 in 2002 (2003 was wet). Interlagos 2012 had a pole time of 1:12.4.

So you're looking at somewhere around the same time they were doing when we left the track.

Cheers Gav, I dunno why I didn't think to check it that way.

Wasn't one of the main reasons why F1 originally left the A1 Ring because the cars had outgrown the circuit?

What's changed now other than having a sparkly new pit building?

If anything the lap times might even be slower. There are still lap records from 2004 all over the world which haven't been broken yet.

Was a nice surprise to hear this as I never really expected it to happen! But I think it's good news, nice to have a European event come onto the calendar for once and I'm looking forward to seeing how good the racing will be. Of course the circuit always gets criticised due to its illustrious former layout, but I don't think the current layout is that bad at all.

This is a great track. The racing was great, every corner truly flowed to the next. And it was a beautiful setting.

Only downer? 40k spectators.

Tempting to make the trip if tickets aren't too expensive.

Seems to be plenty doubting whether New Jersey will ever happen.

What about Korea, maybe they'll consider dropping that (rather unsuccessful) event? ;)
Funnily enough, the early Tilke tracks (A1 Ring, Sepang) kick ass over his latee attempts.

Great news!! :D

I've read somewhere that they will set up some extra stands if the race really happens.

I'll try to go there, it's about the same distance for me as to go to the Nürburgring ;)

"As of January 2005, return of motor sports seemed more unlikely than ever, as Dietrich Mateschitz publicly announced that he had no intention of wasting money on a deficitary circuit."

Quoted from Wiki, Lol well that was bull then wasn't it :P

I'm liking what they've done with said refurbishment - the new garages and pit buildings are much better.
It'll be interesting to see what time of year the race is held. Late September or early October would be my favourite time for the race in an ideal world(Like when the race was held in 1997, for example - all that weekend showed off the track and location at its most beautiful). It'll probably end up being held during the summer though.

Watching DTM race there was cool. I know that a lot of people don't care for the A1-Ring, but I kind of like it. I would welcome it's return.

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.

Monza or Spa could be dropped for this race :-(

NO THANKS ;)

The Real Story of the Race was that the Renault's fell apart and the Ferrari's didn't.
Rosberg headed for the sliproad and retired, probably because of Nicotin starvation they have still not given him a helmet with a little hole in it.

I doubt it. Firstly, Spa has an agreement to host the race until 2015/6.
Imagine the uproar if either of those two get dropped!

I say kick out Korea and don't bring back Valencia!

I've always liked it, and enjoyed driving it in GP4 as well. It is of course a pale shadow of its former self, but then its former self would be quite @#$%& now, flat out for half the lap, and not in a Hockenheim/Monza kind of way, but more of an average American oval kind of way.
