Has anybody else downloaded this?
I did a couple of days ago, and have to say I love it :D
It's in beta stage right now, and there are four tracks available; Imola, Indianapolis, Silverstone and the Hungaroring.
The cars are based on 800hp+ single seaters, and the game will be made with proper tools to mod tracks and vehicles.
I think the physics are great, it's really awesome pushing braking right to the limit, feeling the rear end bucking around.
For me it feels better than rfactor F1 mods in the way you can slide the cars on the throttle with opposite lock,
but if you push it just a little too much, you regret it.
Put a wheel on the grass under braking and you get pulled into oblivion and
if you brake a few metres too early for a corner the great AI will dive inside you.
The range of available options regarding car setup is very large, for example TC thresholds and wheelspin levels at which it kicks
in are fully customisable.

Admittedly the cars don't look great, but the game is being made with the intention of modders doing their work,
every file in the game will be detailed, and modding encouraged.
At the moment there is no damage model or wet weather, but to reflect this you can download the game (there's a later alpha release too) for 15 Euros.
This also allows you 1 year's downloads of any new content. But at the end of the year you do get to keep and play with whatever you have downloaded, forever.
I'm having a lot of fun with it, maybe some of you guys will too?

Me too, it's how I imagined GP5 would feel :)

I commented about this in the GP4 forum, about the "emotional sequel" to GP5. It looks sweet (driving-wise) but it's too early to pay that much a year for a developing game.

No offense to the devs, but those tracks are awful. Might as well be fictional. Free addon content for rFactor is more accurate than that.

Not sure I agree there.
I've done quite a few laps round the Imola circuit, and it's the best Imola I've driven yet.
This isn't necessarily all down to the circuit itself, which I think looks nice enough anyway.
I've grown tired of being able to just launch my car at the Variante Alta and final chicane in rfactor and other games, without any consequences.
Sure some of those addon tracks look beautiful, but if you're playing a game with physics that aren't quite there, then the circuit never feels challenging where it should be challenging, like it does for me in VGP3.
Also, the full version of the game is being released with a track editor (track designer 3) so you will be able to fairly simply construct accurate circuits yourself using google earth images and terrain data.
To be fair also, the devs have primarily concentrated on the driving model of the sim, which is top notch ;), although the graphics engine is also really smooth, so could cope with some extra demand for sure.
Maybe for the 1.0 version the tracks released will be more to your liking?
I personally go for how a game feels over eye candy anyway :)

Well watching that video you posted, the Imola circuit is completely wrong. The pit lane entrance for example is just hilarious and completely fictional. Aqua Minerali is also wrong. And this is before you get into smaller details such as gravel trap layouts and kerb structures, which are all wrong too.

GP4 Imola is GPS made, and GTL Imola is by far the best. And this isn't "eye candy", this is very basic circuit layouts. Everyone complained F1C had horrible tracks, and this looks to be worse. From the video, the cars also appear to have much more grip than F1 cars too.

Yeah I agree, fair point, the pitlane isn't correct, but I'm guessing the track was made last year when it was off the F1 calendar and no-one knew what the revamped pit layout would look like for sure.
Again, its not something that can't be easily rectified or modded in the future, but I do like the tracks, Indy is very very good :)
Having watched a GTL hotlap round there, yes, it looks very nice indeed, sparse, but I like that. (any grandstands??)
I disagree about the last point though, on default setup the cars understeer quite a lot, and it takes quite a bit of tuning for them to handle nicely, even then in some corners, the front end won't stick, others the rear wants to step out if you get on the power too soon :)
Makes it really fun ;)

There is now a demo available to download at
www.vgp3.com
The Monza track has been recently released in addition to Hungary, Indianapolis, Silverstone and Imola, as has an official and easy-to-use track builder.
There is also a 2008 F1 update pack, available here
www.siniscope.com
Why not give it a try?

You have to register before you can download the demo, and that's a bit annoying. I wonder why it's called Grandprix 3, where's 1 and 2 then? It's a bit close to Crammonds GP3 isn't it?
Right....just registered, now I see that I'm forced to pay to get a demo! I'm not going to pay for a demo, that should be free, if you like the demo, then you buy the whole game.

Really?
I have logged out of the vgp3 website, clicked on the demo, and it works, it lets me download it without being logged in or registering.
Try it again perhaps?

If you find the car skid noise annoys you, there are some modified ones here..
[virtualgp3.web.officelive.com]
I use the file with 20 on the end IIRC, and it's pretty good.
For TC it may confuse you a bit, but if you drive with it on, the units in the menu ms-1 and rads-1 indicate the threshold at which it comes in, so higher values will give you less TC.
I think I use values around 2.5-2.8 for the low and high thresholds and cutoffs and then 165 for the bottom one.
