My new track: Liverpool Waterfront Circuit (UPDATE 15/12/09)

Posted by Fincent
To be honest the inner city bits are narrow even in my car, but there are much wider parts round by the fly over (exit of the tunnel) and round the dock road. I think it creates a nice mix of narrower tighter regions and the wider faster regions. I really like what you've done, wish someone would make it for GP4 as well :)

looks good so far!

Right, after a bit more work in BTB I've managed to get together the entire layout! All the required roads are done (with elevations, cambers and the main bumps) and some basic road markings and scenery has been done too. It's nothing flashy or overly exciting (yet ;) ) but I thought I'd post this video anyways to give you an initial look at the layout of the track. With regards to what it'll be like when it's finished, this is probably as wide/narrow as the track is going to get and the actual turns and lengths of the roads are realistic too. Everything else can be (and is likely to be) changed in the future. I'm interested to see what you think :) .

Great track Fincent! I'm sure that when the buildings and such are up, it'll look amazing!

Maybe it's not suited for F1 races, but it'll certainly do wonderfully in the Méganes!
I so wish I could plat rFactor! Amazing track, Fincent!

looks really good :)

Cheers for the comments :) . Here's a quick WIP shot to show you the kind of work I'm doing on the road markings. With BTBs new method of doing walls, it's really quick and simple to overlay lines and decals over a base texture (which is a great way of getting lots of detail without eating up lots of texture memory and processing power).

looks fantastic!

Looks like a real point-and-squirt track, like Vancouver. The layout is good though, and the width is fine! It's a street circuit, it's exactly challenging enough lol. In real life those bumps would shake your neck out of joint, but should be interesting in-game.

I know this is digging up a bit of an old thread but here goes lol...

Sorry about the lack of progress recently. The scale of the project was absolutely massive to begin with and when I started university in April, all work just fell through! So unfortunately I've had to scrap this track :(

However, I've recently gotten back into the whole idea of making this track because I'm spending pretty much every day of my life wandering these streets now. I've reprofiled the track completely and with the addition of Google street view and loads of 3d buildings, there's no shortage of reference material! Taking the track through the town centre like I originally planned would have been far far far too much work so the new layout instead makes use of the expressway and the seafront (which will feature some purpose built sections like the last sector in singapore) that run along the water's edge. Here's a quick screenshot I rustled up last night :)

If anyone fancies doing some modelling or texturing on this project then feel free to lend a hand :) there's no shortage of reference material!

Well, I'll say one thing. Your track is definitely better than one of Tilke's street tracks! ;)

I feel like hoping in my car and doing it tonight ;-) Great track :)

Thanks both :) I'm going to be working on making the road markings a bit more detailed over the weekend then hopefully next week I can borrow a fellow student's iPhone with an app for measuring altitude and have a walk around the route ;) want to get these elevation changes perfect!

Also, does anyone know how I can take buildings from Google Earth and then use them in rFactor? Many thanks!

dunno how you do it man, my attempts at BTB failed massively.
looks really great - don't stop now!
Been doing a bit of steady work over the last few days and the majority of the road markings are now done! Just a few text decals need creating like "THRU", "AHEAD ONLY", "NORTH" and all that. Here's a few snooks :)

Also, Ive FINALLY gotten around to making some new wall and fence textures. No more BTB "same textures as every other WIP track" anymore ;)

Quick update! Ive been doing some more work over the weekend, mostly on tweaking road markings. Also, new wall and fence textures (including armco and orange barrier safety endings). A few sponsors are roughly placed but will need refinement for sure. I know that in my Thermalito track, the textures were one of the things I could have done better so that one of the areas I aim to focus on :)

Also as a quick aside, my lecture for tomorrow has been rescheduled leaving the entire day free! Since I would have been going into Liverpool anyway, Im going to take a camera and a notepad and walk the route instead. If anybody knows of an iPhone app that measures altitude/height then that would be fantastic!
