Solved the wall problem btw :) somehow the way I had made the catch fencing was distorting the collidable shape of the wall even though it kept it's same appearance...therefore when I drove into the wall, it would act like a ramp, either flipping the car upside down or launching it into the scenery. The fix? Simple, lol, re do all the walls in the new design *bangs head against desk*. Looks like I've got a long day ahead of me tmrw...

Anyways, I managed to get a fair bit of terrain down today, from the start of the pits right across to turn 4. Looking pretty good, especially with having some run off areas now. Will post some screens tmrw depending on my progress :).

Cheers kv88 :)

Right, I've managed to fix all my faulty walls and been doing some work on the terrain for the track. It's only basic stuff at the moment but I can add finer shapes and the texture blending later on :). Here's a few wip shots:

Turn 5 and the waterline at the top of the dam (water texture is just background image, currently working on a better one)

Downhill turn 6 and the sliproad leading to the high tunnel.

Looking out from the higher tunnel at turns 7 and 8

All the immediate track side terrain is now done! That means all the run off areas and stuff. The textures are just standard grass and gravel ones (no blending yet) but I thought I'd put another video (and a few more shots up) to show ya how I'm getting on :).

btw, sorry about the jaggedy edges in some places on those shots, thats just the way that BTB renders on my pc.

It's looking great! :)

Absolutely superb. Especially the corners after the second tunnel

That's great. IMHO more suitable for the touring car than the F1 car. The entry into the first tunnel, down the sliproad, is awe-inspiring! You could make up a full second there with a good line, but you could also launch your car quite spectacularly into lots of little pieces! :)

wow mate, this track absolutely looks thrilling, as soon i read the DAM bit I was pulled in. Great work... Keep It Up! :)

Thanks for the comments guys! Good to hear people like the idea :) definitely spurs me on to do as well as I can with it and get it released properly.

More progress btw, all terrain is now done and includes texture blending! That means all access roads are sorted (but I need to fine tune them to get them looking flush with the grass) and I've put sandy sections on some parts of the grass where old roads would be to add some more variation. All the surrounding scenery is done too so that means all run off areas and the hills and stuff in the background. Managed to put a culvert style tunnel on the infield as well for the central footpath but you can't see it too well on the shot. See picture:

What's left to do? Quite a bit lol. Need to get the kerbs sorted properly for all corners (which might take a while to do as some corners have banking and need a different kerb profile for each segment). Need to fine tune the blending also. Then do all the AI stuff (paths, timing beams, fuel consumption, cameras etc)...not to mention all the objects (trees, buildings, signs). Then probably double all that work with unforseen stuff :)

It's a long road and might take a while to get done but once everything is done in BTB (which has already slowed to crawling speed :( ) I'll get myself the trial copy of 3DS max and see what I can get done in 30 days!

Hmm, you might be able to put it up on rFcentral and spark people's interest, even get someone with experience to help you! :D

Already done Gui, about a fortnight ago lol ;)

Just hope you're right about the experience part too :) could do with someone who knows what they're doing to show me the ropes lol.

Right then, progress report!

Kerbs are being a right pain in the *rse recently and launching the car into the air and with most of the terrain done I've now shifted my attention onto the AI stuff :) . Today after wrapping my head round various bits and pieces I've managed to get my Xobjects for the track sorted (timing beams, pit in/out etc) and at this very moment I'm working on my AIW file. If you've never done it before it's sure you'll have a headache in no time, but I think I'm starting to understand stuff :)

Once I get basic AI, cameras and the kerbs done, the track should be okay for some early testing. So if anybody wants to help out then just let me know :) . Doesn't matter what your machine is, as long as you have rFactor it's okay. Infact, the wider range of machines available for testing then the better!

depending when the beta is out I should be able to help with testing! Finally done with uni, cannot believe it. I don't know for how long I'll be home but I have until about mid-January I believe so I am very average as a driver but still willing to help. Hopefully now that I'll finally play rF after about 4 months I'll manage to have a chance to improve!

Okay then Gui, I'll add ya to the list for when I get a beta out :) . Thanks mate!

Btw, I've just got a basic AIW file down and have given it a quick test run...it's not perfect (AI slows down before the final turn and the startline, pitlane connections are a bit funky and the line is a bit rubbish in some areas) but it's great to be able to race against other cars now! Although when I tried the F1 car it went through that turn 6 faster than I thought possible :o so it seems you're not the only average driver out there after all Gui ;) .

Btw, my first laptime in the touring car was a 2m 25.206s (was very satisfying getting the beams and stuff working so it seemed like a moment to remember lol)...managed to get it down to 2'21.371 after a few attempts though.

lol, indeed DaveEllis.

Rod, unfortunately the tools I'm using work only for rFactor. GP3 is a lot more complex to make tracks for than rFactor and it's already complex enough as it is lol! Someone may decide to convert it over for GP3 in due time (or GP4 more likely) but I wouldn't put any money on it :) . I would strongly recommend upgrading to rFactor though if you get the chance...I used to play GP3 all the time, got rFactor and I've never looked back since. It's probably the most played game I have ever bought :) .

News on the track though: progress is slow. The AIW line is being refined and I've smoothed out all the funny bumps and stuff. Also, I'm upto turn 7 with the trackside cameras. I've got a few interesting angles set up which might make some very nice screenshots once it's all done ;) .

Great looking track! And I thought my track was looking good ;) I'll have to try this when it's finished :)

Where did you get the textures from? I only have the Ellis addons, and some sponsor textures. Where did you get the catch fencing one, and the gravel (that looks better than the gravel that comes with BTB)?

EDIT: How did you get the walls going diagonally and not following the track? For example when you joined two walls or left a wall going straight so that there was a run off area.

Cheers flat tyre! All the textures are default with BTB :) in the new version the catch fencing is already included and so is the gravel I think. Do you have the pro version btw? Because if you do then you get access to an "extras" download page on the BTB site that has a few texture packs in it. Not entirely happy with the textures at the moment though, I'm going to need to work on getting a transition texture done between the grass and the track (and then the grass and the gravel etc).

As for the walls, if you hold down shift when moving the wall out from the track, you can move one end at a time and get that diagonal effect. The run-offs were more tricky as I had to create a new track and remove the surface material, place a wall along the entire length of the track and then spend a lot of time placing that track's control points where I wanted the wall to go. The benefit of doing it like that is you get a lot more control over the shape of the wall and you can also anchor terrain to it :) .

The AIW is being a bugger btw...I've smoothed out a lot of the turns but for some reason they slow down way before the hairpins now. Hmmn, might have to start the lines from scratch again.

Thanks a lot. I had to sacrifice my last licence to get the upgrade, I hope it was worth it ;)
