hello guys, i'm gonna spend my holidays in GB this year from August 26th until September 2nd and i want to visit Woking, Southhampton and London. So my question is, what's the weather like during August\September? do i have to aspect much rain, or is it possible to get some sunny days :)? and the second thing is, i want to visit a Motorsport Museum, where i can see a lot of F1 cars, is there something in the near of London or Southhampton?

August is still summer here. Late September is when Autumn starts, and it is still very summery in August, though it does start to cool during September quite quickly. It's not typically rainy, though it is England, so you have to expect rain (in the north we had especially bad flooding in September 2008).

Not sure if Brands Hatch has any museum of note, but that is certainly the nearest major circuit to London/Woking. Thruxton is less than an hour's drive from Southampton, again I don't know if they have anything worth seeing there, I doubt it though.

I would say that whenever you visit Britain, at ANY point, prepare for literally all types of weather. We might be safe on snow and ice, but nobody can guarantee anything beyond that.

I'm not sure if the Donington Park museum is still open, but its one of the best collections of F1 cars you will see almost anywhere in the world

I am in Portsmouth, near to Southampton.

British summers are unpredictable.

You have the fact it is the end of summer/early autumn time. So it SHOULD at least be sunny and moderately warm.

We have had warm weather up until November.

But being Britain, the chances of it being wet most of summer is high. So even WE do not know.

Southampton is a dump, no idea why you'd want to go there - any particular reason, or is it relatives and free accomodation?

In all seriousness, if you do go to Southampton and need a day to experience something, I must suggest getting an hour train and spending a day or half in Brighton.

Culturally, it is a brilliant and quirky little place and has a trillion more things to enjoy than Southampton - which is pretty much an out city enclosed within a wall, now mostly abandoned, and overspilled to the outskirts with a massive shopping centre. It is horrid!

thank you all for your advices :) in Southampton is the hotel i've booked, that's the reason why i'm there :). My idea was to visit the Mclaren Tecnologycenter, but i've noticed already that it's impossible, because it's not opened for visitors :(. On the other hand i'm really happy to take a trip to GB and my wife wants to visit Jenson Buttons birth place ;). She's a big fan of Jenson Button. I'm sure we'll have a good time in England

A fantastic quote from British novelist W. Somerset Maugham:

"If you want to eat well in England, eat three breakfasts."

I wholeheartedly agree. :)

@quickslick, if you are spending such a short time here and want to visit Button's hometown of Frome... it is quite 'boring' LOL! It is also quite a long distance to travel (by car) and would waste a long half day to get there, and the same to return home.

If you can, pass by it on your way to the Eden project! That would be a brilliant day out - plus you get to experience an extreme end of cultural Britian and the countryside.

Make sure you drink the local Apple ciders - a must!

Yeah, Frome is a completely nondescript town in fairness. And it is a helluva drive from anywhere you have mentioned. Unless you like Real Ale then I can't think of a good reason to go there.

damn mentioned the Eden Project; that is even further away but arguably in one of the most pleasant regions of the country. I have never been myslf but know many that have and they always talk positively about the place. Plus if you are heading down that way you can go a bit further to Men-an-Tol and sing a Levellers song on the moor :D

the donnington museum is apparently open again (i live near there so i heard it recently - would have to check tho). There's the Haynes motor museum near bristol. and Frome is completely devoid of interest - i drove through it this morning en-route to London.

Weather can be pretty much anything tbh... though sept is usally sunny - normally sunny as soon as schools go back!

Brooklands Museum is near Woking. Other than that, i'd try and see somewhere more picturesque in the uk. Oxford, Cambridge, York etc.

Brighton is very nice, lots of nice pubs, The Lanes and the pier is worth a look. Hastings is further east on the coast, nice, sort of like a coastal village, ride the train up the cliff to see the old castle ruins. There's a Pirate theme underground sort of thing there not far from the castle ruins, but it's pretty naff. The fish and chips are good there too. Rye is very nice, quaint old pirate haunt, lot of history, and if you can get to Beachy Head, just out of Eastbourne, the view is speccy. I'd be getting out of Southampton as quick as I could. Portsmouth is not too far, lots to see around the port, I expect it's changed a lot, haven't been there for years. Going west Dorset is very nice, good Scrumpy to be had. :-)
We will be expecting some pics of course. :-)

When my boss asked him why he didnt go out himself, he replied "did you ever see Churchill with a gu...." and teh colour drained from his face. My boss thought it was hilarious.
